Perhaps on the front page we need to see when there are unread messages on the Learning Group Forums?

I agree. just a little boldiness would do, lol.

I think maybe we should have it so that you subscribe to a learning group, and that learning group and any others you signed up for is displayed on the front page with how many unread messages there are in it.

Gian's idea seems (to me at least) to be the best solution. I don't really care about how many unread messages there are in lg's that I'm not a member of.

subscribing would also enable you to 'join' so to speek

I may investigate this, but I'm working at the moment so somebody with more time and skill may end up implementing it!

I don't like the subscribing idea, I'd prefer to read all the learning groups posts, and thus I want to be subscribed to them all ... though maybe others would not ... I don't know.

Or perhaps it can be set that admins always get to see if there are new posts, and can always post to the message boards, but only subscribed users of the non-admin variety are privvy to these things. :-)

I think that the subscriptions shouldn't be to keep the unsubscribed out, but rather to make it easier to see if new messages are there for those subscribed.

I agree. Subscription should just be used to determine which ones are listed on the start page or something, like which are listed first in the LG section. Then you can always browse around in other LGs. Perhaps a subscription could entail a separate mailing list or something like that where inquiries can be on the site and sent to subscribers at the same time, that would be kind of cool.

sphinX: Subscription would only change what is displayed for you on the front page, it wouldn't alter your ability to read other learning group's contents. Also, if you want to read then all, just subscribe to them all!
