IRC meeting tomorrow!

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at July 26, 2002, 03:49:04 PM

Here is the message I just sent to the TPU mailing list. By the way, if you're not subscribed, please do so by following the "TPU Mailing List" link on the left sidebar!

Here's a last-24-hours reminder of the TPU IRC meeting to be held in #TPU on Open Projects Network on July 27, 9 PM GMT. (Note the GMT. Be sure to convert that to your local time zone if you don't want to show up at the wrong time. 9 PM GMT is 5 PM in the eastern USA.) You can use the Java applet IRC client reached from the "chat now" link on the TPU website sidebar, but it would be better to get one for your native platform.

We'll be talking in general about how we can make TPU a better organization. Whether you've been in TPU for years or just joined, or if you are a programming expert or a newbie, please stop by! One thing that we'll be planning is which Learning Groups we'll be running. Learning Groups are meant to be groups for people learning a language or other topic from the same tutorial(s), with exercises, web forums, and regular IRC meetings for helping each other with any problems encountered. We'll be coming up with a group of volunteers for each LG to get it up and useful.

Also on the agenda are an e-mail newsletter and anything else you can think of. We might even play some huge open source multiplayer games like bzflag afterwards. ;-)

If you can't make the meeting it will be logged (using Bobot++ no less).

So, who's taking bets on how long it will take before Bobot++ crashes?

unknown_lamer: I hope you added some more sayings to your program ;)

The log bot is completely silent. And DumbBot is banned from #tpu :) (if you want to add new sayings to DumbBot whenever I run it, you just have to run &addsaying SOMETHING-FUNNY, anyone can do it).

As for crashing, Bobot++ has been in development since 1997 and has a lot of users (in fact, it is an evolution of an older bot, bobot). There are a few people who emailed me after I took over maintaining the bot that use it for channel sitting on efnet--it _never_ crashes.
