BUT GIMME BACK THE MEMBERSHIP STATS.

I don't ust use them to see where am I am in relation to others, I also use them to see how long someones been around.

I promise to stop going on about my place in them

Plllllllllleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaassssssssseeeeeeee

I will never mention them again, but I do use them to work out if someone just comes to this site when they have a problem, and then leaves for six months.

Oh and why did my PM suggestion fall on deaf ears (or should I say blind eyes?)

Posted by diegoeskryptic [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 11:01:53 AM

HAHA.... listen at him whine like a bitch... u damn post count whore.... MAUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

LMFAO

Posted by mop [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 12:06:27 PM

/me can't help chuckling

So, why where they important?

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 12:22:57 PM

I don't think your PM suggestion was worthwhile, because you would generally read the private messages individually, as they came in. Also, I think they're quite readable even in the tabled format.
And the "membership stats" weren't worth it if even one person would mention them in a competitive way, ever. Having the link available paints a false image about our community.

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 12:39:50 PM

Pleeeeeeeaaaaaaasssssssssseeeeeeeeee.

And with the Private messages, you could have said "I can't be bothered"

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 12:44:31 PM

What are you laughing at CodeRed, need I remind you of your previous incarnation.

I use them to find out if people are one time wonders, like I thought Mattynam2002 was, untill I checked the stats.

Once again I promise not to make another comment about them.

Posted by diegoeskryptic [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 01:04:25 PM

I think Vlad is gonna go insane when he hears about the membership stats....

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 02:18:25 PM

A better solution to your problem would be a categorization of users by magnitude of post count in their profiles.

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 02:20:53 PM

You mean put their number of posts in their profiles. That'd do

Their monthly, quaterly annual and all time number of posts in each profile would work#(Though I'm sure it'll take some work)

Thanks

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 02:29:37 PM

I said magnitude for a reason. I don't mean specific numbers, but rather general categorizations of post frequency.

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 02:31:49 PM

That'd do as well, say one stop wonder, inferquent poster, regular poster, frequent poster etc.

Posted by mop [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 04:04:19 PM

rdd, it sounds like your the only one who wants a way to tell wether or not someone is worthy by the number of times they ahave posted.

I mean, its not like anything else matters.

Fine, don't let me use one of the features the '@' guys spent so long and hard, developing and perfecting and one of the sites most popular features.

Posted by mop [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 04:13:02 PM

Yes, I agree its the most popular feature, infact I don't even post or read the posts here! I just sit in my chair with a bag of popcorn and enjoy the show.

What ridiculously overpriced drink do you have with the pop corn?

Posted by mop [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 04:27:11 PM

jolt cola.

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 04:50:57 PM

Profiles have good enough information now.

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 03, 2002, 04:55:30 PM

Thanks

"What are you laughing at CodeRed, need I remind you of your previous incarnation"

Please explain? The only reason I was interested in my post count was because I was almost number one, If I was 23 or whatever you were I wouldn't've cared. I really don't care that they are gone.

Posted by gian [send private reply] at September 06, 2002, 02:59:04 AM

Also, if you just want to know how long someone has been around, then just click on their profile. The URL should contain something like "id-xx" or "?id=xx". Anything < 1000 can be considered fairly old. We currently are sitting at about 2800 users.
You will notice that Psion is id 1. That is because he has been here since 1AD.

Posted by Neumann [send private reply] at September 06, 2002, 08:11:36 AM

gian: That ID is meaningless. I've been around TPU for a long long time and my ID is 2441. I should be < 100.

Posted by gian [send private reply] at September 06, 2002, 04:35:58 PM

Neumann, it does show you how long they've been around this particular incarnation of TPU.

Posted by AngelOD [send private reply] at September 08, 2002, 05:05:07 PM

Wow.. I have ID 601. I'm cool. ;)

Of course, I must bow to gian's mighty ID 20. Psion's ID doesn't count as he owns the place. :P

Posted by sphinX [send private reply] at September 08, 2002, 05:59:36 PM

I'm 29! ;-)

Posted by mop [send private reply] at September 08, 2002, 06:21:52 PM

I wonder what my number was in the previous incarnation.
I wonder what my name was in the previous incarnation.

Damn.
How would I find that out? Its really stumping me!!

Posted by gian [send private reply] at September 08, 2002, 09:43:13 PM

mop, we're talking about a different site, on a different server. TPU moved to this site and server in (if memory serves) summer of 2000. Unless you were around back then, then I doubt you had a name or a number.

Posted by mop [send private reply] at September 08, 2002, 11:05:31 PM

I was here about two years ago for a little while, when the default theme was all pretty like this light blue one I'm using now.

It was only for a few days or something, I don't know why I didn't come back.

Posted by sphinX [send private reply] at September 09, 2002, 12:17:06 AM

Does anyone remember Gaz's (dr.devil) purple CGI site with the slashdot headlines? That was a pretty TPU incarnation.

Posted by gian [send private reply] at September 09, 2002, 01:56:45 AM

I remember Gaz's Freshmeat-looking one...

Posted by sphinX [send private reply] at September 10, 2002, 12:21:50 AM

Yes, the purple incarnation was the one before the Freshmeat rip off (that being the site he submitted as his Computer Science project, I think)
