Member sites listing written by 7 year olds with spelling problems?

Posted by rnd [send private reply] at September 24, 2002, 06:03:04 PM

While I realise that on IRC and web forums it is "acceptable" to use atrocious spelling and grammar, I fail to understand how people still manage it when typing slowly into a form with all the time in the world!

Is it laziness? Can people just not spell? It's really not that hard to type fast and accurately with a little practice. And if you make errors, correcting them isn't that hard either!

Perhaps it's just me turning into a grumpy old man, but this sort of thing had been bugging me more and more recently. There were a couple absolute gems on the member site's list that prompted me to rant about it, but unfortunatly it's pretty prevalent all over the network these days.

Anyway, I guess my suggestion is for people in general to pay more attention to what they type!

Adios,
-rnd

rnd, you're not just a grumpy old man - it annoys me as well.

My website has great grammar! And spelling too! Sometimes.

I noticed a whole bunch of typos and grammer errors in Psion's documentation for DevLocus but I won't mention it for fear of being smited by the great Optimus Prime.

Realises what he has just said and tries to erase it with white out, scrolls the screen and finds he has to white out that part to.

He's probably planning to go through it when (if) he finishes DevLocus ^^

My use of spelling is getting better (got a dictionary). Those who have trouble with my grammar creativity can send me a <book like dictionary but for grammar> for free.

If you don't like my spelling don't read it!

mop, we can't read it so we don't have a choice.

RedX, the million monkeys on a million type-writers scenario comes to mind after reading your post. (Imaging a book with every single possible sentance in existance ^^)

Not every sentence. just the grammar rules. I surely hope you didn't learn grammar by memorizing every sentense you would ever use.

Where are these errors in the Devlocus documentation? Psion usually has impeccable grammar & spelling, even if it was 2 years ago...

not grammer/spelling errors more like typos. I can't be bothered to read through it all again to find it but also some small things in the function listing, like

void setParameter(String s, String v)
Gives parameter t value v.

though almost any complete idi0t could figure out how to fix that.
