Well i've nearly sorted out the server , just waiting for the ADSL. I've got 1.7Gb on it , somehow. And well yeah i suppose i'll have it running soon.
It has: * 5mb User Qt. * Fortran 77 and 95 * CERN HTTPD * Perl/PHP/Python/ESP * RedHat Linux 6.2 * GopherD and more ... Well i'll have it running in a month or so .. and i am awaiting hardware failures ... Screwdrivers are so expensive in the UK !!!

Yes ... i think so.
I need a Fortran station anyhow , so if people dont sorta launch long processes on it to damage its working capability i dont see why not.

I would recommend that you just reboot it every few days to fix anything of that sort.

Yeah .. i could do that i suppose .. if it wasnt located in Coventry [ 90 miles or so away from me ].
CERN HTTPD :: NCSA HTTPD :: XITAMI HTTPD :: APACHE HTTPD So much choice ...

It's running linux, and you can login remotely and get root privs.
From there, just do "shutdown -r now" and off it goes. Change now to 10 in order to give your hypothetical users 10 minutes warning.

if it handles ssh1 then it would be much easier for me to get to it from school.

I dont know its not a problem shutting it down ( i know :- ) ). But it'll be only ssh1 or only telnet.

/sbin/reboot on slack seems to work well. if it's a direct linux boot, or timed lilo menu delay, and assuming your system is stable and the inetd scripts etc load everything needed... should pose absolutely no threat at all.

I would be intrested in a Shell/SSH1/Telnet or something of that nature. Depending on where your server is located , is it in Europe ?
And , really why dont you have 2 computers , it would substantialy cut down the amount of resources you use.
