Default Theme

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at December 09, 2002, 11:04:18 AM

If its not to difficult could you change the default theme to the pale blue one. Most people who visit here just once say they were quite put off by the colour scheme. Maybe more would stay if the scheme was changed. It nearly put me off staying as a permanent member. And although I know you can change it, people who are new to the site don't realise that and leave before they get a chance to change it.

Thanks.

I changed the default theme to a minor modification of Vlad's that actually displays properly in Mozilla.

I'm not particularly fond of the default theme. I think I will stick to TPU Blue.

Thanks, hopefully a few more newbies will stick around.

Who designed the old(the black/aqua/grey one) default theme anyway?

And I like it...

I like the sexy^H^H^H^H nice light blue + white one best, that would make a good default.

Well its good that you edited it. It was never for mass use and took a few minutes. Psion would you mind a tiny bit removing the siliness comments from the top, they are a bit strange. I dont use Mozilla ( GO OPERA 7 !!! ) so i couldnt test it.

May i point out that there are still errors in it:

Line: 15 Context : TD
opx is not a margin-top value : opx

Line: 47 Context : H4
BOLD is not a text-decoration value : BOLD

Line: 172 Context : A:hover
BOLD is not a text-decoration value : BOLD

Line: 183 Context : DIV.box A:hover
BOLD is not a text-decoration value : BOLD

excluding the numerous Verdana is not a family errors. I like the new one call it Paler2 better than my interpreattion of Paler. Good job... lovely to look at.

The new default theme makes the fonts HUGE with Chimera on OS X. The same thing happens in Mozilla (since Chimera uses the same rendering engine...). Vlad's Paler theme worked fine for me before here.

I noticed that in opera 7 ( maybe because its Beta ) the text was a bit too big. Maybe in the options a user could configure the font size.

Maybe it still needs editing.

Suggest a complete modification and we can use it.

Posted by CDR700 [send private reply] at December 11, 2002, 10:46:01 AM

That is what i am working on at the current moment ,a complete modification of the theme and testing it on the following browsers.

** Mozilla 1.1 [Win/Unix]
** Opera 6/7 [Win]
** Netscape 6/7 [Win/Unix/Mac]
** Internet Explorer 6 [Win/Mac]

Any other i should test ???

Konqueror (someone still has to use it...I'll be switching back to it when KDE 3.1 is released and Konqueror finally gets tabbed browsing).

Finally a fan...

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at December 12, 2002, 09:01:52 AM

taubz, from the opinions I've heard, it sounds like your black theme actually turns people off to the site (i.e., they foolishly associate "black background" with "childish"), whereas this one is just suboptimal in the eyes of some. =)

Posted by CDR700 [send private reply] at December 12, 2002, 10:04:48 AM

The idea how i came up with such a stupid theme is a long story. Well it was for a site, but the original one was worse as the text was the color of thr borders of the boxes ( i.e. very light ) and small ( Verdana 10pt ). I dunno it was just luck i suppose , now i use it all the time a in my sites that i make.

I quite like that Black theme that says "white on black" in the commentary.

OK!

http://www.lwap.org.uk/tpu/tpu30.css is the latest one it.

* Signifantly shorter
* Conforms with CSS1/CSS2/CSS3
* Version 3.0

Ok ready to release the main one in an hour or so hehehe

Posted by taubz [send private reply] at December 12, 2002, 12:11:39 PM

My feelings won't be hurt if you change the default theme to something else.

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at December 12, 2002, 04:07:38 PM

I switch between the two every so often.

Posted by diegoeskryptic [send private reply] at December 12, 2002, 09:27:47 PM

the pale blue theme is so $#!Ty... who thought of that theme?

Posted by unknown_lamer [send private reply] at December 12, 2002, 09:31:59 PM

What? The pale theme is great! It is even better than the old TPU theme (at least if you are me).

Posted by unknown_lamer [send private reply] at December 12, 2002, 09:33:25 PM

tpu30 seems to work ok, except the link colors are screwed up and the text is still a bit on the large side. I haven't tested it on OS X yet (because it is 10:30pm and I'm at home :).

Posted by unknown_lamer [send private reply] at December 13, 2002, 08:56:08 AM

The text in Chimera on OS X is /huge/ with tpu30.css. About 24 pt!

Posted by CDR700 [send private reply] at December 13, 2002, 11:25:02 AM

Yeah that seems an error i better go back and see , maybe umm i got it i actually posted a link to 2.1 heheh where the fonts werent combined and it didnt conform with css 1/3 mmm strange. Yeah the font is strange on mine too ...

Posted by CDR700 [send private reply] at December 13, 2002, 11:36:37 AM

http://www.lwap.org.uk/tpu/final.css

Fixed:

* Chimera problem
* Generic browser problems (all its now 100% fool proof)
* Should work ?

Posted by unknown_lamer [send private reply] at December 13, 2002, 01:40:59 PM

The message thread text size is normal now, but the text entry box text is still huge and the text on the thread listing pages is too. So are the "preferences..." links at the top of the page.

Posted by CDR700 [send private reply] at December 13, 2002, 02:15:27 PM

Aha they must be part of the same class hmm. Ok.

Posted by CDR700 [send private reply] at December 13, 2002, 02:21:14 PM

http://www.lwap.org.uk/tpu/final.css

THIS JUST GOTTA FIX IT !!!

Posted by unknown_lamer [send private reply] at December 13, 2002, 09:50:18 PM

It looks ok in galeon/Mozilla on X, I haven't tried it on OS X yet (I will Monday when I go back to school). The sidebar text in mozilla/galeon is a bit large on X so the text wraps (which is a bit ugly). You might fix that if you use relative sizes instead of point sizes (maybe -2 instead of 8pt). I bet TPU looks fugly on NeuMann's 1600x1200 screen (although using points isntead of pixels makes slightly better).
