Java Applet Chat

Posted by ken [send private reply] at January 14, 2003, 04:04:57 PM

I didn't know where to post this. It's obviously not programming so I posted it here...since it's about the site. How come the Java chat isn't working? Did I get banned or something? Or is it just TPU's problem or the chat itself?

This would be under general, and I strongly recommend that you use a real IRC client.

Hmm, well, this would also perhps suitable category.

!BUT! Yes, getting a regualr IRC would be wisest. I like XiRCON [I think thats name] for Widnows. And KsIRC for LINUX/KDE.

When I find a suitable, free, easy, nice IRC client for Mac OS X..and it's web based....I will.

web based. Something tells me that this thing is the best web-based(I presume by web-based, you mean integrated into your browser) one your gonna find.

/me has an idea - If you're ever looking to learn about programming/networking, why not write your own one for Mac OS X?

I prefer BitchX as an IRC client for linux, there might be a port for the mac, although I doupt it.

I beleive I recall seeing a python IRC client around, perhaps you could search sourceforge.net for it.

Get Athena for OS X. I use it at school. If you don't pay the shareware fee you just can't connect to more than one network at a time.

Okay. And if I'm looking to LEARN about programming, I don't think I'll instantly go into building an IRC client. What do you even do that with? Applescript or something?

Applet fixed, thanks to rdd's penetrating observation regarding server names

Hmm, would could use Mozilla's IRC client[Mozilla is for MAC also]. !And!, MAC OSX some Linux's programs have the ability to work on. SO, Linux IRCs could work on MAC OSX.

Psion -

It still doesn't work too well for me. It still doesn't let me into the chat.

Hmm, that's awkward.
Maybe, try a client.

It works now, after I connected for about the 5th time. Guess there is no need for IRC now.

It's happening again. It can't find my "hostname" yet everything was set to the way when it worked before. *sigh*

Just take the 30 seconds to install a real IRC client, or as suggested use mozilla's.
