Alpha site software

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at January 25, 2003, 02:27:46 PM

Anyone who would like to alpha test the software I want to use instead of that bringing you this message board and the TPU site in general right now:

http://tpu.tpu.org/

^-- Bare site running through a fairly complex system I've implemented mostly from scratch, so please find bugs. =)

You can read some possibly interesting stuff at:

I can't login!

Posted by pramod [send private reply] at January 26, 2003, 03:58:58 AM

Is that normal or what? Maybe, the user recognition part isn't still up?

And hell, what does "Anyone who would like to alpha test the software I want to use instead of that bringing you this message board and the TPU site in general right now: " mean?

Part 1. Anyone who would like to alpha test the software I want to use:
What software, the web page scripts? "I want to use", use what? for what?

Part 2. "instead of that bringing you this message board": what bringing you what message board?

Part 3. "And the TPU site in general right now:": No idea about this at all.

The software behind tpu.tpu.org is to replace the software currently running www.tpu.org.

I believe the new site has a seperate set of users, so you'll need to register.

I get 502 - Connection refused errors. Is that a temporary problem becuse something else is happening on the server - uploading for instance?

Yeah, you must register there also. [Though the register link is somewhat camoflouged (^_^) ]

pramod, the phrase structure was no doubt overly complex, but I think native English speakers can understand it without trouble.

It was clear even to me. And I'm as native English as the guy who lives next door to Saddam's ex-girlfriend.

Ok, I'm not a native english speaker. But, English is the language I speak best. Anyway, It sounded more like a wannabe lawyer [atleast one in India] trying to confuse his/her client with legalese. :-) Anyway, there was/is no offence meant. Just fooling around, 'coz I had nothing to do.

Hmm, currently it just says "Template not found"...

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at January 29, 2003, 07:16:11 AM

A tad more information would be nice....

Posted by CViper [send private reply] at January 29, 2003, 07:24:46 AM

Hehe, sorry...

When I try to access the "main" page, tpu.tpu.org, I get an plain-text page, which only says "Template not found". Nothing else.

I belive that I'm logged in + I used an custom style ( http://www.tpu.org/black/tpu.css ); however the custom style did work until a day or so back (that is until the "Template not found" message started to show up).

EDIT:
Removing the cookies didn't help, so I'd guess it dosen't have to do anything with the custom style (no cookie = not logged in = no custom preferences)

Btw: I'm using IE 6.

That is terribly bizarre, and I have no idea why it happens, though it's almost certainly connected to your custom stylesheet. One thing I can say: "template not found" is the generic 404 error message at the moment. You can visit http://tpu.tpu.org/Logout directly to see if the problem is related to your personal settings.

If anyone else can duplicate this, I'd like to know about it!

hmm.. ok, was able to logout and then visit the main page normally.
no problems afterwards either (even with the custom styles). funny...

BTW: just a little cosmetic thing: after logging in, you'll get to a page saying "Logged In" and below asking you for the username/password (and the rest of the login stuff)

Yes, I gave up in the middle of getting a redirect to the main page to work there the last time I was working on it. =)

Suprise: I'm getting the "Template not found" stuff again... This time I really can't even guess the reason for this - I didn't change the preferences/profile in any way.

If anyone could give me a direct link to some other page (except the logout page), so I could check if the problem is limited to the front-page only, or whatever.

EDIT: I checked some links I had in my history stuff... Can't visit anything; even the logout page tells me "Template not found".
EDIT II: The problem is currently limited to IE; with netscape everything works as it should

I'll mess abit and check why I sometimes get an error and sometimes don't.

Funny, although I got the error message when requesting the logout page, it seems to have logged me out anyway.

And after that I can login again and surf around on the page normally.
