NewCompetition

If you are not aware of the situation as of yet. I am beginning to hopefully develope some form of competition between programmers at TPU. Creating this will require some co-operation between the users here at TPU. I will get a website up regarding this matter. I will post in depth details there. Please feel free so ask me any questions or suggestions. If you wish contact me, I am often on MSN and you can find my email address at the tail of most of my posts. I am currently working on this project offline. Tomorrow night(Aussie Eastern Time), I will post my first update here.

Refer any comments to my email address: have_dinner@hotmail.com

Thanks,
Sam

In blatant disregard to hd's request, I post here! There is no need to have a separate web site for it; the software this web site runs on is so customizable it would make your feet hurt. It _might_ make sense to have a separate web site now, but eventually everything would live here. See my (somewhat outdated) documentation at http://www.devlocus.org/tea/Article./cg-0/id-5/sc-1 .

Dear All,

There has been a little personal setback. I apologize for the delay in contacting you guys back about this. I will begin rebuilding from where I left off. I must urge anyone who wishes to help to please contact me.

Dear All,

This is to all who were interested in the competition that i had mentioned. I must firstly look toward Psion for support with this as he DOES run this site. And as I have noticed there is now a contest part of the page.

There should be several positions available for running this contest, and obviously you must really want the position and be determined to maintain the position.

I must let you guys know. The contests will be open for only a couple of programming languages for the moment. I would like suggestions to be put forward as to what languages that will be contested.

I am hoping that there may be a selected contest committee. This committee will consist of the following:

*Judges - There will be specific judges to judge the functionality of each program. There will be a judge or judges for each programming language. And then a head judge to determine the final winner. (The number of judges to be chosen is undecided as of yet.)

*Supervisors - These members will obviously supervise, but they will look over the competition and make sure that everything is running smoothly. They will put forward any ideas for change to the users. They will also determine what changes need to be made based on judges' or other members' requests.

*Managers - Psion obviously, considering he is the one doing all the hard work. And possibly another user who Psion may select. This user will hopefully learn several new things while under the wing of Psion should he decide to take up this roll.

I am aware that there may not be enough active members on TPU to be able have as many committee members as I had hoped for. If that is the case a compramise will be made.

Please forward your requests for positions to my email - have_dinner@hotmail.com - Include in the email, a reason for your application, what language(programming) you prefer/use primarily, and how you believe that the committee will benefiet from having you aboard.

Thank you guys so much,
Sam

I'm not interested in a position, butI think the languages should be:

> Perl
> Python
> c\c++ (probably one judge for both languages)
> QBasic (for _serious_ beginners)
> java

I'd suggest smalltalk if it wasn't a minority language.. sorry lordaerom.

I would suggest that someone who wants to be involved in this post messages in this thread instead of e-mailing anyone. It's best to avoid bureaucracy wherever possible.

Indeed... I am interested in doing some competition stuff.
I think that was one of the tasks of my adminship, was it not?

well i would like to help out with this and i agree with buzgub on the language but we can't have too many language because we may not have enough active members in TPU to participate in all of them. so the contest should start small and grow a little at a time. i dont' really care about what position i can have, i just want to be a helper and help you out. i mostly program in c++, knows BASIC, a little of perl and python. and i dont know what benefit i will be for being aboard, well i guess i'll just HELP OUT and well i'm very ACTIVE online, and it's summer so no school! so i'm free 24/7 till sept. something. well that's it

Not sure how active this idea still is since have_dinner is taking a break (hopefully a short one), but is there any way you could poll the people interested in competing what languages they would like to program in?

I have a small hunch C and/or C++ would be used by most of the people here, but we can't go around deciding things that way...

grandsnafu: No... Psion doesn't like polls *smirk*
