Ascending order

Posted by gian [send private reply] at August 06, 2001, 01:49:12 AM

Why is it that I have to wait for the ENTIRE page to load before I can view the newest messages?

Why don't we have it so the newest messages are at the top, and the oldest at the bottom?

CHollman82: No thanks... I'll be okay with IE... It's still a matter of economy. Plus, the page is dynamic CHollman82... thus, it doesn't work like a static page.

gian, you can lower the time threshhold in which threads are displayed and get them all to fit on a single page.

I really doubt it. I have tried to make all browsers reload these pages every time with an expiration tag in the HTML.

Psion: Still, isn't it more logical to for the newest thread to be at the top? It can't be that hard can it? Sounds like a matter of changing "order by" in the SQL statement...

CHollman82: From... Now I have stopped listening to you _completely_ for the next few hours at least.
Psion: Lets add an IP banning feature! SchizoChimp and CHollman82 could be destroyed in one foul swoop!

If when you say "not as bad," you mean "millions of times as unbearable," then I agree.

PS. Maybe reverse order would be better....

None of the OTHER sites use this "reverse order"! >:(

I don't know that descending vs. ascending is the issue, but rather, move threads with new posts to a section above the others. Yeah. Spiffy.

I thought about that too... but psion... I remember one site where they used it... oh yeah! TPU.org (The old testament).

Resist the peer pressure, Psion. Dare to be different. Do the dirty. Put the dirty threads on top....

I don't know that I understood that...

Like a dirty file is one that's been modified. A modified thread.... Nevermind!

Posted by have_dinner [send private reply] at August 09, 2001, 10:42:43 PM

god damn... you had to scroll all the way down, and wait for the page to load just to read a useless post... THAT'S LOGICAL!!!!!! not!!

See, I had to wait for the entire forum listing to be able to read Mr. Holeman's useless and otherwise wasteful post. I might not have minded so much if it:
1) wasn't him
2) was at the TOP!

No, change is the only constant in the universe, we must learn to embrace it, HCllo82aMn...

It's not for the sake of change... it's a simple matter of saving resources, time and energy.

Posted by Cobbs [send private reply] at August 10, 2001, 05:24:39 PM

why not just have an option on the page for ascending or decending?

What happened to the order of the posts on this thread? The dates are in a completely random order, except that the newest post is at the end....

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at November 05, 2001, 05:07:55 PM

I think that's just that CHollman82 modified his, in one of the only cases of abuse of that otherwise helpful feature. :-)
