Contest Time

Posted by have_dinner [send private reply] at August 15, 2001, 09:05:33 PM

Ok, I propose that the first contest on here start out small.
I would like to advise all of you that the language of this contest is C++.
Personally I do not have too much knowledge of this language, but I am aware that there are lots of people programming in this.
I urge people to put forward some ideas as to a general topic.
This competition will be open to everyone, but this is based on an honesty system to begin with. Each person will rate themselves out of 10. 1 being an absolute begginner, and 10 being extremely familiar with the language.
If you have any topic ideas please post these with the heading "Contest Topic".
I must also advise that I will accept entries up until Sunday the 19th. Obviously this is dependant on how many topics we have put forward.

The completetion date for these projects will be 1 or 2 weeks from the date that the entries close.
Personally I will not be competing, but more so, I will be supervising.
Psion will, obviously, be a judge.
Myself if I know what I'm doing.
If possible 1 more judge will be needed.

A card game? The seniors can do fancy interfaces (perhaps use opengl and have the camera constantly moving around or something) and more complex rules and so on, and us beginners can just use stdin and stdout for our visuals, and make a blackjack game or somesuch :).

Another idea would be "a calculator". This could be very simple, and it could be expanded to make something that is basically a programming language, a la Mathematica.

Psion: Yes... I think maths related is good. It means things like programming ability or language is not as much of an issue, because most languages provide facilties for mathematical processing ;-)

The calculator idea sounds nifty.
