IRC

Long ago in a land far away, IRC channel #TPU on EFNet was a marvelous mecca for discussion of the coding arts by enthusiastic young people. Alas, for whatever reasons (some sages say the rise of banal web technologies and the fall of good ol' DOS!), the channel stopped receiving new members, and most old members moved on to other things over time.

However, I think it would be possible to develop this valuable gathering place and mutual help resource again. If the idea of it interests you, and you're the IRC idling type, then I'd suggest idling in #TPU on EFNet. A buncha of old members hang around there, so you'll be entertained often enough in the beginning. Hopefully, enough interested people could start being there regularly that the channel could also re-assume its original purpose.

Feel free to use this thread to voice any ideas about this or any other communication enablers.

Maybe we can create a bot and script to show a listing of who is in #tpu at any particular moment with their area of expertise or something...

(unrelated note... in coming to #tpu not logged in today, no stylesheet was coming up.)

I bet you didn't mean #tpu! ;P

There was a silly error that was actually checking the preferences for user 0 (not logged in) for the style sheet to use and using that, which wouldn't be a problem, except some joker modified the stylesheet switching link to change user 0's preferences to something that wasn't even a valid URL. It's all fixed to give user 0 the default sheet now. :-)
