Consider allowing a user to upload pictures( of nominal sizes) into their threads if they need to show a screenshot of their problem.

That would be so easy to abuse. No forums on the face of the planet allow that. =)

Actually, If someone would need to add a picture, (s)he could upload it to his/her webspace and include a link.
Since there are so many free webspace servers, this shouldn't be a problem.
I've done this before. I got several MB webspace from my ISP and my website only takes a few KB, leaving enough space for screenshots and such, when needed.

Perhaps if it would be possible to include a link to a picture, and let the forum-software open it and show it here.

Of course it's possible, but then people include horrible disgusting goatse.cx pictures in their posts!!!

I think that it is unecessary to have pictures.... a link can usually suffice, and often, it doesn't really help.
All it does it add to the clutter of the forums...

As I've demostrated you could easily use your webspace to store your pictures and include the link here. I've a site at that adres, and the 2 can live nicely together.

And if someone would be intrested in the goat, I found the picture on a site where they sell them.

metamorphic: luckely goats can't read, else you would have hurt it's feelings.

I ditched the picture from the site, so the URL will no longer work.

Thats the problem with linking to images, they tend to dissapear. All the more reason to let us upload them host them on the server.

They'll only disappear if *you* delete them, though. It's your responsibility to ensure they remain available until they become redundant.

How about introducing smileys on the site? :)

Posted by buzgub [send private reply] at April 09, 2002, 06:59:46 AM

I expect everyone hereknows what smileys mean anyway. Why bother hunting down pictures, parsing every message for certain strings, blah blah blah, when everyone knows what :) or :( or even ;( indicate regardless of pretty pictures?

Why , dont u like to see pretty pictures instead of dumb ascii text???
