Psion, just to exercise your might Psion... can you shift this one message to the pre-existing thread which had this sort of thing in it?

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at June 12, 2001, 06:19:40 AM

Well, no. It makes sense in this forum.

Well, to be most specific and technical, what CHollman82 conjectured was not in fact a suggestion. Just thought I'd point that out.

Only kidding, I'm just amused by gian's responses to CHollman82's posts :-)

Then stick up for yourself! I am just opening myself up to absolute humilation here, you could take such easy shots at me, but you're not! Instead I have to be incredibly cynical and negative about everything you do. You haven't found anything in months? That would make sense considering all your actions point to the fact that you were born yesterday!

"You haven't found anything in months? That would make sense considering all your actions point to the fact that you were born yesterday!"

Hah. Humor came out of your bitching. <- Not sarcasm.

Now shut up, please. :0)

Hmmm, that lacked my normal cynicism and humor... oh no, I'm losing it.... I'm over the hill, there's no hope for me anymore.

CHollman, we don't aim to serve you. If you haven't found anything interesting, then contribute something.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but most people here have been in touch with that site since it formed, and I think you even submitted it to one links category when it was already listed in another.

Also, how could gamedev be useful to you? All you seem to do is sit on the TPU fence and yell out random insults, and tell us how much better you are than us... Leave this place, fly to your beloved gamedev!

Hmm... Your post seems very odd to me, CHollman.. taubz wrote that "If you haven't found anything interesting, then contribute something", and then you reply that "way back" you contributed a URL.. Ofcourse the weight should be put on "way back" here.. I believe taubz was talking about contributing *now*, not asking if you had contributed before.

Contributing to actually answering questions on the boards, instead of giving cynical answers that only bring out your porn obsession.

Well, lets go one step further, and replace TPU with a static page hosted off a personal ISP! One level, all it has is a faq! Brilliant!

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at June 16, 2001, 08:53:35 AM

I would prefer to lose the whole web site if we could just get a community of programmers who want to learn from each other over IRC and mass e-mails, start fun projects, etc., like in the beginning.

I don't remember ever answering how to pass strings to functions.

CHollman, I think you FAQ is a good idea. It's something like what I tried to do with my last Quick Start Guide. What I want to know is, why do you expect someone else to write the FAQ? You seem to know what you want in it, so you should make a useful contribution to the site (your 2nd contribution after the gamedev link) and write the FAQ yourself! (I'm serious. If you need help with the DevLocus article formatting, I'll help you out.)

Hello, CHollman... It's more then a few weeks after the 25th now!!!

Posted by buzgub [send private reply] at August 04, 2001, 08:29:10 AM

As I had a fair bit of time on my hands, I just went through the message boards with the intent of finding the most frquently asked questions. I had difficulty finding questions that had even been asked more than once, so perhaps would be more practical to find a few of the better FAQ's out there and provide links to them.

some examples:
comp.lang.c FAQ- http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/C-faq/top.html
Comeau C++ and C FAQ- http://www.comeaucomputing.com/techtalk/

and so on. I'm prepared to make a quick guide with all of these, and as I need to learn how to drive regular expressions, I suppose I might be able to include a list of what is in each FAQ. Perhaps now I've got these leads, CHollman can take over. :P As my only real area of expertise is VB, I shouldn't really be doing this as I can't assess these for suitability. Then again, I suppose Mr. Goto can't either, so.......

any ideas?

YES SIR!

Just because the FAQ idea was two months ago doesn't make it irrelevant.
