Or use something like libmpegsound (http://splay.sf.net). I based my mp3 player (splister) on it. Sadly, when my drives crashed, I lost the really cool splister 0.6 branch and gave up (you can get 0.5 which is broken and really brain damaged tho...look at it to see how horribly I coded two years ago).

sry, lol. Didnt mean to send the post yet...that's what happens when someone's house catches on fire and your writing for a board. Then it ends up being a false alarm. Sometimes people are so inconsiderate when they have their emergencies;-) lol.

Anyhoo, neone know how to retrieve and play mp3 data? I've been wanting an mp3 loader in C++ for my game engine, and the only thing i've got goin on right now is the FMOD library...but I'd like to write my own loader for my games. Anyone have any suggestions or a course of action? Some info on mp3 data would be MUCH appreciative.

Writing an mp3 decoder is difficult...and mp3 is patented anyway. You should write a fixed point ogg vorbis decoder instead!

tsk tsk tsk

Whatever happen to challenge?

What, a fixed point ogg vorbis decoder would be hard! Do it if you think you can. See http://xiph.org for the spec and floating point reference implementation. You would get many hot chicks if you actually wrote a fixed point ogg vorbis decoder.
