Okay....I am a beginning programmer (ie: I suck). I need someone with some experience to help me. If anyone is interested you can reach me on AIM as NinjitSerge, on MSN messenger as NinjitSerge@hotmail.com and on yahoo messnger as elfingreenchild. Ermm...It'll be a Mythical RPG if you care to know. I could really use help. Thanks.

Wow, perl? My experience with Perl is limited to only CGI scripts, but as far as my knowledge goes Perl wouldn't be the language of choice for a MUD...were you thinking of executing it on a server as a CGI script or using GUI modules in Linux? I do have some Perl experience and I can help if you'd like, but I'm unsure of how this could be implemented.

Perl is used for text processing. It would probably be good for a MUD because of its powerful regular expressions.

I hate to be a nitpick or anything, but if you're only starting out, then programming a MUD will not be a good idea, not even with help from someone who knows what he's doing. A MUD is very complex, and must keep track of a lot of things at once, and while it's certainly not impossible to do, it's hard to do well.

Some of the bigger MUD systems out there, still suffer from a fair bit of bugs. Anyway, should you decide to go ahead with it anyway, then I wish you good luck.
