Not really sure from what you've just described...please post some of the code and maybe I'll be able to spot it.

8? Why not use 9? I have 9 on my system right now, Improved my 3DMark2001 score by about 20%

9 is out?

Posted by buzgub [send private reply] at September 02, 2002, 05:42:10 AM

A good reason for not using version 9 is that it is not exactly a small download, and is probably not as well-supported as version 8.

Want the link Gian? Only thing is unless you find a serial for it you have to reinstall your OS come October 31st, small price to pay in my opinion.

"that it is not exactly a small download"

Did M$ ever made something small? (in diskspace that is)

Or in memory or processor power and most importantly not in money.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at September 04, 2002, 02:59:04 PM

Actually, it is only 30mb, not very large at all

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 04, 2002, 03:09:08 PM

Someone thought 30 mb is big? I don't even think thats big, and I'm on a 56k.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at September 04, 2002, 03:18:15 PM

I know right, I've downloaded 210mb progs off kazaa on my 56k connection LOL

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 04, 2002, 03:21:57 PM

How do you check exactly how much you've downloaded.

I know I must have downloaded 4-5Gigabytes by now - we have AOL - ?16 a month gets you unlimited online time - with no phone charges, so I just leave it on overnight - I download a lot of music videos.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at September 04, 2002, 03:24:53 PM

You can't, I mean I downloaded a single 210mb file at one time, I would have to estimate I have downloaded well over a terabyte since I've been using the net. I use Juno, 10 a month, unlimited use, no phone charges, no busy signals, no dropped connections.

I WANT DSL

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at September 04, 2002, 03:34:42 PM

DSL is great. How could I've lived without it for so long?
It's really fantastic! you can download everything without worrying about loosing your connection, or other people requiring to use the phoneline.

(just teasing the 56k modem users)

I can't get a fvsking dsl line, other wise I would fork out half of my pocket cash each month to ppay for it. They don't have DsL in this end of Northernb Ireland, too rural.

I may not have DSL, but I have a friend with his own apartment who is on RIT's Dual OC48 connection, I spend A LOT of time over there LOL

How fast is it?

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at September 04, 2002, 03:55:01 PM

I can generally download a 5mb song from kazaa in ~10 seconds, depends on the speed of the person/s i'm getting it from though, it rarely uses it's full potential because the site/user you are connected to on the other end is slower.

ADSL is the best thing I've had. Besides of course my 17 inch flat screen.

:)

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 05, 2002, 11:04:25 AM

Wowee, wish I could have a good connection

Posted by sphinX [send private reply] at September 05, 2002, 05:37:40 PM

I have ADSL now, but before that I had a 400kbps satellite connection (one-way). The ADSL is fast for general browsing, but the satellite connection didn't have a bandwidth limit, ie I could download as many things as I wanted at 400kbps :-) The fastest combined speed I ever managed was 210Kb/s, which was 4 files from the *same* server. On ADSL however, I can only download 1 file at 50Kb/s and then browsing is really slow, kinda like a dial-up connection. But it's nice, and fast, and two-way which means I can play Day of Defeat online as much as I want ;-)

I'd be happy just to have ADSL, never mind sattelite, stop making me feel inadequate. :(

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at September 06, 2002, 12:04:22 PM

I've cable and I can download several files at speeds varying around 50kbs without any drop in performance in browsing. Even if I download something from a good server (read: 200 - 300kbs) I've get a good performance. So cable beats Asynchornious Digital Subscribers Lines.

Posted by sphinX [send private reply] at September 06, 2002, 06:16:48 PM

That was never a contested issue, cable most certainly is faster than ADSL, but seeing as a) ADSL is cheaper, and b) cable is not available in my part of Australia, ADSL was the better (read: only) option after the satellite software got incredibly annoying.

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at September 07, 2002, 07:18:16 AM

"a) ADSL is cheaper"

Not here. Both the company that provides ADSL and the company providing cable charge the same. The only difference is their "free installation", "n months free subscription", that sort of thing.

Posted by sphinX [send private reply] at September 07, 2002, 07:46:09 AM

Monthly charge is about the same for cable+ADSL, but yes, I was talking more about installation.
