URGENT: Program Idea needed

Posted by have_dinner [send private reply] at July 05, 2001, 07:08:50 AM

Hey guys. Can you please give me some ideas on creating a program. Like what are some simple ideas for newbies(like me) to attempt and get familiar with Perl or any other programming language?
I would really appreciate this very much thanks guys. So just put some simple ideas up and I'll see what i can do. Maybe then I can send you the script and one of you could debug it or refine it for me??? If somebody could action this it would be of help for ALL newbies.

The reason I have made this urgent is that I am getting really bored at home and I am looking for something to keep me occupied.

Something that magicaly repares a mainboard. I blow up one yesterday. (wise advice: You'll probably heared about turning of a PC before disconnecting a LPT cable or it may damage you MB? Well, it's true.

Okay... A simple thing... a password protection script for a page that supports multiple users and passwords... Then, we'll try and crack it!!

Just to throw in, marking your post as urgent doesn't make us respond any faster. :)

Write a Random-program-idea-generator.
Write a program to predict the results of a experiment with a particle accelerator. This doesn't give too much trouble with the graphics. (The math however...).
Write a Pong/Outbreak/tetris clone. Everybody does.

ok guys... first of all... sorry about the urgent.. second of all... i think i might read through my perl book first.. then come back to you guys... and i'll actually know at least SOMETHING. Thanks anyway :) and with that meeting, what time is that in australian time???

Posted by gian [send private reply] at July 08, 2001, 05:29:00 PM

Ummmm... Australia is +10 GMT, so... it's at 5AM (Yeeaaaarh!) Till 12PM... Don't worry about arriving late, I wouldn't get up at 5am. You'll also have to factor in DST yourself, beause I don't know what state you live in.

If everybody used internet time from swatch, it would be whole lot easier to organize meetings with people all across the world.Oh well...Anyways, you should try writing a program that converts all HTML tags in an HTML from uppercase to lowercase or lowercase to uppercase. With perl, it should be pretty easy.

Here's an idea. Write a program that downloads porn off the internet one million times faster.

"does anyone need that much porno"
"mmmmm... one million times"
