HELP!!! Visual C++ 6.0

Posted by Spiritfire [send private reply] at October 31, 2002, 08:02:29 PM

hey, I'm learning C++ Turbo in school this year, but I have Visual C++ 6.0 at home. I don't know how to use the latter because it requires you to create a project and all sorts of other fun crap. could someone please tell me how to get Visual to work like Turbo?

What's wrong with creating a project? That's supposed to make it easier to use, not harder. :) Just create a new Win32 console project, and put your program into the file in that project.... hit "Compile" and "Execute" and you're good to go.

(What is it that turbo does that you want MSVC++ to do?)

you can download Turbo C++ from "http://community.borland.com/article/0,1410,21751,00.html
(you need to copy-paste the url, because the board doesn't seem to like comma's)

Before anyone start complaining about warez: look at who provides the page.

You see, taubz, my problem is that when I try to do that, it comes up with this fun error message that isn't really explained at all except for "error spawning cl.exe." I don't know why, but because of it, nothing really will EVER compile. I tracked the file down (not fun) and included it in the program, as well as tracked down several others (not fun) to get THAT one to work.

And thank you SO MUCH for that link, RedX. My opinion of you is now much better than when I was here last about 6 months ago. Then again, now I actually know some programming..... :D

if you want to make a simple console app, just go with a freeware compiler that runs in the console like gcc. That would be a lot simpler.

mop, that is not really useful here. He has said what he is looking for.

I was suggesting if he wanted a simpler one. He said he didn't like having to go through starting new projects.

jeez, does it cause you guys pain to see a post you don't think is useful or something? I don't even know what was wrong with my post.

Yes, it causes us great pain and agony. The point is that we attempt to keep TPU as it should be.

wow... this post has quickly become a gerrymandering magnet for crap. I'd say that as soon as I get around to installing Turbo 1.1, I should be fine. Thanks, everyone.
