Writing Device Drivers

I'm interested in writing device drivers for Unix or Linux. I have a high-level idea of what a driver is (interface between OS + device), but don't know at all how to go about writing one. Where can I get started? Thank you.

Read /Writing Linux Device Drivers/. You can download the book from http://www.xml.com/ldd/chapter/book/ . Or you could buy a copy if you wanted to.
