I'm somewhat interested in learning Java; I was wondering which (free) compiler would be the best/most useful.

thanks in advance

Microsoft released its java SDK, which could also be quite useful. And Sun has an SDK too, which is good. Both of those are just command line tools, though. I would at least recommend downloading the documentation for one of the two SDKs.

Microsoft's Java stuff is dead, last I heard. If you want to learn Java, download the JDK from Sun, http://java.sun.com/jdk and then have a look at the tutorial, at java.sun.com/tutorial

Also, the book Thinking in Java is available for free from bruceeckel.com. Have fun!

Great, thanks. Il'l download the SDK and stuff tomorrow or Monday (it's a big dl), and then come to you with a slew of new problems.

Kidding :p
