Animated GIF's...!!!

Posted by WarbringerGX [send private reply] at January 13, 2002, 11:02:12 AM

I was wondering if Visual Basic 6 & C++ 6 can use animated GIF's. Do they animate? Cuz my bro says they don't in VB, but I don't know if he knows what he is doing. Any help appreciated...

Obviously that depends on the controls you use. I haven't used VB in 5 years or so and never intend to touch it again, so don't look for any further help from me, but your best bet (if you insist on using something as silly as VB) is to find a better GIF display control.

There's no built-in support for animated GIFs. I don't remember there being built-in support for static GIFs either.

Same here. But I've watched people use it, without stopping them. Now I feel guilty.

Doesn't say anything about VB, is a description of the gif89 format (the animated gif format)

Okay, since everyone else here are so friggin' pure, I'll answer..

No, there's no support for animated GIFs in VB, but it *does* have support for static GIFs. I don't think I ever found a control for VB that supported the animated ones, but that was pretty easy for Delphi.

Anyway, you can check http://www.planet-source-code.com/vb for information (I'm pretty sure you can find loads there), or you can write your own, using the specification RedX provided the link for.

Hope this helped.

What about C++?

Hehe.. I would guess you can find a class for C++ for handling animated GIFs, but more likely, you'll have to write it yourself. :o)
