Visual Basic GUI and C++ Power

Posted by eternaldisciple [send private reply] at February 14, 2002, 08:44:21 AM

What would be a decent resource for calling C++ programs from a Visual Basic GUI or the other way around? I just don't feel like learning all the wonderfully intricate MS Visual C++ code right now. That's a project for a later date. Thanks.

VC++ is not powerful. :) . I have had so many errors - frankly its not worth learning. I bought a book on it once ( now I know whey they reduced it to $8 :) ). All your troubles wil be solved by installing Borland C++ 3.1.

Yes, well, whichever compiler or whatever. My issue right now is just using the VB gui and C++ code.

Borland C++ Builder will make the Visual design lover in you feel right at home, except with some grunt driving that pretty front end!

Gian da ya know if Borland Turbo C++ Builder is still avalible ? I heard it was a good builder , win16 and dos.

You mean the installation of a car with of all the things falshing. :) Yeah thatsan enoughing feature but a good one. Borland 5.02 is best ofr Visual , but 3.1 or Builder 3 is so stable that it can even be coompared with Fortrand compilers.

i never had problems with vc++ (well except when trying to modify the wizard-generated code :p )

btw is it std with borland that ctrl-s put you in search mode instead of saving the file? it's that way at school and i absolutly hate it!

Depends which borland you are using.... people often forget to make the distinction between Borland C++ Builder, and normal old Borland C++.... they are very different.

You dont understand your problems are minor , Borland C++ is much more ssstable - proven. It is prefferd over VC++ by many people. Borland are the professionals :).

I have no idea if BTCB is still available, and don't really care either...

I would have to disagree that Borland are the professionals anymore, because they've been bought by Corel ;-)

That is pehaps so , but I think their compilers ,are the best. The errors are well documented , and it is a much more stable enviroment than VC++ or Dev C++ .

well i guess i like vc++ more because i always used it, and i suppose it's the same way if you are used to borland xxxx.

the only problem i've had so far with vc++ is that it freezes sometimes when viewing files with inline assembly.

about that with the professionals - i dont know, but a lot of source packages come with the vc++ workspaces

the VB interface and VC++ interfaces cannot be swapped. What you can do though is use the VC++ interface and a different c++ compiler. These is a thread at gamedev.net about this. its good and i would recomend giving it a read:

I must say I think that VC++ is one of the best MS products to date.

What do you mean by "Lots of errors" Vlad? To date, I have had no errors that I can see (that is if you mean bugs in the Compiler/IDE itself). If you mean errors as in compiling errors, then that has nothing to do with VC++.

Heheheh IDE errors dude , the compiler erros are also probalby internal I mean there just could be errors in the program I tried no 10 anyway. THe compiler erros in Borland 3.1 are much better documented....
