how to view both *.mpeg,*.avi,*.dat,*.jpeg,*.gif in a picturebox control in vb

not sure i understand you correctly. You say "both" but list 4 items. Surley both means 2?
MPEG's and AVI's are movies, and therfore I was under the impression that a picture box cannot hold them. a .dat file could be anything, with any type of encoding, although it would most likly be text, so again why would you want to use a text box to veiw it? .jpeg and .gif are image formats, and can be viewed using the picture box control. anyway, what was the question again?

i THINK he asking how to view movies and pictures with the picturebox control in vb..now i'm no VB expert but i'm pretty sure you cant...but i'm just a poser so you might want to check it out some more before you give up compleatly.

You may not be able to do so using a picture box, but an alternative could be to use the "Media Player Component" to fulfill ur needs. Embed the component in ur form and it will work just fine.

It's actually quite possible, since the Windows Media Player needs a viewport for showing, and that viewport can be almost any control with an Image property. :)
