Programming problem, pls help
Posted by Malachi [send private reply] at June 14, 2001, 05:10:34 PM
Ok, I have a problem with a certain program. It disables home-based censorship. Censors have already attempted to kill this proggy, so im not gonna give em ammo. It has a vulnerability in a registry key that serves to show if it is active or not. When a random value is passed to this key, it will block access to the program, making the censors life easier. So, does anyone have ideas here? Can the program dynamically update itself? Put something in a random memory block?
Forgive me, this is probably basic, but i know little C or C++

I don't even understand the question.

I dont think he knows exactly what he's talking about. How/why would a random value be passed to a registry key. Maybe he means an unkown (by him) value that is used to lock the proggie. That doesn't seem very likely because you could just run regedit and change it. Ooops, I might have said to much. Anyway little dude, I am somewhat sympathetic of horny preteens so I will redirect you to www.peacefire.org

CHollman82: I think you can stop voicing your opions that all anyone every does on the internet is access porn, this could be true but I have a feeling that that was all you ever did. Most people use the internet as a learning tool, and censor programs that block anything with the word "drug" in it, such as "The tribe sometimes used the plant as a drug" is really annoying.

dude, he's a middle scooler. If it wasn't porn he was after he would have asked his mommy or daddy or net adminny for access. In my mind there's a 90% chance that he was after porn, which is good enough to make my assumption. If I'm wrong Malachi, please correct. But if I'm right tell me so I can say "told ya so" to gain and I might just give you what you want.

What's wrong with pornography?

Lordaerom: Nothing!
CHollman82: Everyone here makes a concerted effort to spell your name right, try and return their courtesy... eg. Sethard, gain. Go ahead and say "Told you so" to "gain"

CHollman82, you're missing a possibility: maybe his parents and his net adminny don't know a thing about computers.
And on the other hand, how could we blame him for puberty or hornyness? Those without porn, throw the first rock. RedX

lol.. How do we even know he doesn't even live in some third world country were censhorship is a real threat?
Well anyways, in regards to the intended subject, Well obviously the first step is to set the registry key back to it's origanal state. However, is the program merely editing the key as the result of censoring, or is it responding to the change in the key? If it's the former, then you can try changing the registery key with one of windows API calls (assuming this program does run under Windows 9.x)
