XML converters

Posted by DragonWolf [send private reply] at July 08, 2002, 07:48:15 AM

Hi all,
I'm just wondering if anyone has a list of good sites with convertors on. I'm particularly interested in 3d file formats to XML.
Thanx

Why not write the converters yourself?

Are there an DTDs for 3d file formats? XML != one format. It is a meta-language for defining types of documents (using Document Type Declarations, DTDs). I don't think there is a 3d file format defined in XML, so if you want to store a 3d object as a XML file you'll need to write the DTD.

Angel: Because if someone else has done it there is no need for me to do it.
I ain't seen/heard of any DTDs of schemas for 3d file formats, thats why I was asking really ^^
xml.org is the main place I use. But I'm pretty new to XML (not that it takes long to pick up ^^).

There is nothing stopping you from using XML for a 3d file format. Someone just needs to define a DTD. Just uuencode the binary data parts of the model and you have a nice 3d file format (although the file would be much larger than normal 3d files, so you would probably want to compress the document with bzip2 or something similar).
