IRC Meetings?

Posted by gian [send private reply] at July 11, 2002, 06:02:37 PM

Perhaps we could have an IRC meeting sometime soon... I can't work out what the time should be in GMT, so I won't try.
Don't ask me why, it just seems like a good idea!

in the suggestions forum... i had suggested that we have a IRC class that dealt with a specific programming language.. are we still going to do that (look in the suggestion forum "other new ideas for TPU").... actually GIAN,, u thought that was a good idea...

Really, if we had IRC class on programming WHO would actually be there?

I don't believe it's worth the work that I would generate for the one who'll be teaching the class.

Considering I live on the other side of the planet from all of you...

if "the other side of the planet" means europe, your not really alone there...

The time problem is very easy to solve:
http://www.worldtimeserver.com/
Gives the current time of any country in the world.
http://tycho.usno.navy.mil/tzones.html
Give the time difference for each country.
Or use Internet Time

No, I'm in the US, a lot of people here are from Australia/New Zealand

We can all just meet in the middle of the night over here in the US...then it'll be a normal hour everywhere else! (what, you mean other people sleep during the night?)

Same here and I dont mind a night meeting either

Just ignore that ^

Which produces a problem as there are others who can't get on much during daytime, meaning night would be best for them as well..

Not that many people are from Australia/New Zealand, and even so, it is really easy to meet up with people in the US (usually mid-morning to mid-afternoon).

To solve this problem we could give a wide timeframe to IRC meetings. Like the whole day of saturday or from 12AM to 0PM. It might not be quite good for an offical meeting but that might make people converge toward the IRC channel for at least one day.

Why can't people just come to the IRC channel? It's always open. If you have one of those "always on" connections, just idle in the channel.

Posted by Neumann [send private reply] at July 14, 2002, 09:30:54 PM

If we schedule a meeting on IRC, people will come because they'll think a meeting will mean something usefull. Simply telling them to come to an IRC channel won't draw them in there because for many people (and they are not completly wrong), IRC is totally useless.

Let us then declare that the #tpu channel is always hosting a meeting!

Come to the first and last #tpu meeting ever! It starts now and ends when Psion dies! :)
