A Web Site That Needs Programmers

Posted by Khan [send private reply] at July 22, 2002, 11:00:06 AM

Have you ever heard of neopets.com? Check it out for a second. Go ahead. This site is very complex and makes a LOT of money. But, it has a few problems that interfere with play. I propose getting together some programmers to make one like it that is so much better. The whole neopets.com site might look very immature if you played it but there are some benefits to owning one of those sites. First of all, when it starts to get going there will be some money involved(quite a bit actually if you figure out how much you could be making)....Think about it. If you are interested please E-mail me at khan6@mail.com. I'll tell you the "plan." Thanks for your time!

Depends on what type of programming and the volume of it. If you use Perl (.phtml suggests it) then I could help you with some things after the 14th of September.

.phtml is php not perl.

shit it is ... I cant help then :( I hate PHP , go Lua !!! Well Lua is not made to serve php's purpsose ,its a macro language like VBA , but still !!!

That's ok. But, anybody that can help is certainly welcome. You would, of course, get some of the profit made on the site. The surprising thing is that many people seem to like those kind of sites. The market is there, people just have to take advantage of it.

Khan in your first post you included a gastly thing , a signature.

Posted by Khan [send private reply] at July 22, 2002, 12:29:57 PM

Yes, well....I....umm..errrr..I..uhhh...I wanted my post to have a certain look. I have no idea what that "look" is though.

Alright so more or less ( from your profile ) you joined TPU to get some poor sod to help you , you also wasted space with your signature... why ?

Posted by diegoeskryptic [send private reply] at July 22, 2002, 02:04:48 PM

LOL @ Vlad... he is trying to be like you used to be....

Posted by vladimir_l [send private reply] at July 22, 2002, 02:09:44 PM

Well at least I changed , well I just never came on TPU. Anyway I trid ... to do my own prgoramming ans spent months of hard work learning to make linux work properly and code in C ... and maths too.

I was also interested in learning about the group of people who are members here. It looks nicer with a signature. I only did it for my first message. After that I stopped because my replys didn't require it.

You know the user ID is it numbered by who joined first , if it is ( well Psion is 1 so that explains a lot ) then you would have joined after me.

Posted by Khan [send private reply] at July 22, 2002, 02:12:56 PM

Ok..........What would be the point of that?

Posted by vladimir_l [send private reply] at July 22, 2002, 02:15:34 PM

Me and diego having a simple argument , a usual. I'm lucky its not gian , I always lose to him. Its a game of cat and mouse. Anyway would you be intrested in powering your site with CobolScript ... I could help.

Posted by Khan [send private reply] at July 22, 2002, 02:25:09 PM

Now that you have insulted my ambitions for a site I would have to say.......sure. I'll send you a private message in a second.

COBOL ( Common Buisness Orinter Language ) and Script means its a lite interpreter for it. Its simple to use but comes at a small cost , however it is powerfuk [powerfull - i like to leave stupid spelling mistakes] and its cobol.

http://www.cobolscript.com/ if you want more info , if you are intrested in the prices they are [ CobolScript is avalible for Linux,Windows and FreeBSD ]:

$29.95 - Standard Edition of the software
$49.95 - Professional Edition of the software

and if you are after a cute image that will make you love cobolscript https://www.cobolscript.com/cobolscript_badge.gif here it is.

All the stupid CobolScript questions are answered here http://www.cobolscript.com/csfaq.htm. Here is a CobolScript example http://www.cobolscript.com/cgi-bin/cobolscript.exe?dep.cbl.

Thanks for the sites. I'll look at them.

Posted by vladimir_l [send private reply] at July 22, 2002, 03:07:03 PM

ok , my pleasure.

I don't see any advantage over other language, like PHP, in fact, quite the opposite, seeing PHP is free, and CobolScript isn't.

Posted by unknown_lamer [send private reply] at July 23, 2002, 11:27:09 AM

Remember to only use PHP 3 because PHP 4 uses the Zend Engine, which is licensed by the QPL, which makes it non-free software. Either that or use Guile Scheme for everything...(woot woot, mod_guile 0.1 [http://sv.gnu.org/projects/mod-guile/] is out and so is my guile-web programming library). :P

Posted by AngelOD [send private reply] at July 23, 2002, 12:03:28 PM

Actually, I don't touch PHP3 if I can avoid it. I like Zend, even though their development tools *are* incredibly expensive (which is why I don't use them). However, PHP4 is free. It may not be Free, but it *is* free.
