does ne one know how to convert a system from fat16 back to fat32... I am using WIN ME.....

Posted by AnyoneEB [send private reply] at August 14, 2002, 01:34:56 PM

You want to convert TO fat32? I know Parition Magic can do it, but I remember there being a program in Windows 95 hidden in the depths of the start menu to do it. I've never used it, but maybe one of the GNU/Linux partitioning apps might do it (run off a boot disk).

I recall there being a program called maintenance wizard or something when I used to have windows.

It had an option for doing that if my cybernetic implant memory serves me.

See if configuation screen->software->windows setup->system tools->conversion program (FAT32) is installed
(names can be differend since I had to translate them)

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at August 14, 2002, 05:48:38 PM

I downloaded Partition magic 7.0 from Kazaa. 22Mb later tried it and it works perfectly. (before anyone complains: this was an act of revenge agains Powerquest because they didn't mention that their demo wasn't able to do any real change, not even when I clicked "apply")

I wasn't suspecting anyone to take that seriously.
use your own desgresion, it shouldn't be hard to determine.

Is it legal to download copyrighted matierial from Kazaa (e.g., PSP, Photoshop, Macromedia MX)? As well as empifrees(MP3s)? Are there any reports or people downloading those thigns going to jail? ThanX!

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at August 14, 2002, 09:36:40 PM

Don't worry about it. With 10 million people on at any given time you've got a greater chance of being struck by lightning than being prosecuted

hey mop... i didnt mean to offend...

Posted by buzgub [send private reply] at August 15, 2002, 02:03:11 AM

It is illegal, though.

Posted by gian [send private reply] at August 15, 2002, 03:39:35 AM

Yes. I am worried with this blatant talk of piracy. As programmers, you should have at least some respect for the work of other programmers.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at August 15, 2002, 03:48:41 AM

ignoring it won't make it go away, gian

Posted by gian [send private reply] at August 15, 2002, 03:57:10 AM

Maybe, but TPU is not the place for discussions of piracy.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at August 15, 2002, 04:16:21 AM

Agreed

I'd like to point out that piracy is one of the reasons that half of us became programmers ^^
I could never afford the newest version of whatever, or get some other program, etc.
Now that I make some income I repent for my copyright crimes by buying all the original stuff now ^^
As for Kazaa being illegal, it depends which country your in..
I don't believe its illegal to download copy software, only distribute it (at least in europe) which means if you share your files on Kazaa you can be taken to court. (I think thats EC law, dunno about the US)

Posted by DragonWolf [send private reply] at August 15, 2002, 06:00:56 AM

EU for your pro-euro enthusiasts ^^
Or Euroland for those of you that like living in a place that sounds like an amusment park

Posted by metamorphic [send private reply] at August 15, 2002, 03:04:26 PM

or the united states of Europe if you want to be PC :) ah yes the good ol' U-S-o-E :D

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at August 15, 2002, 03:28:20 PM

The euro is so fantastic! (if you happen to have a big company that is, else your screwed). All those ministers and other %#?@&?%$ assured us the prices would stay the same. Right...

My Opinion on Kazaa:

1) Software Piracy is wrong with ONE and only ONE exception - Microsoft Products - I don't think that needs much explaining. I know there are probably betterproducts on the market, but where I live there are three people in my school (1000 pupils) who know of UNIX, and very few would have heard of any non EA or Microsoft products. I don't have the money though to spend ?500 on every new Microsoft product that comes out.

2) MP3's - Since Napster and Kazaa I've actually started listening to and buying music. In my opinion even if I had of spent money on CDs before, I still would spend the same amount. At least with Kazaa you know what your buying so therefore you've a higher satisfaction rate among your purchases. If I download a song - and like it - I'll buy it because the artist deserves to be paid for their work.

Why I don't like the Euro - We live in Northern Ireland which is part of the UK so therefore we still have Sterling(Pounds rather than Euros), but when we go to our holiday house in Galway, Southern Ireland, weuse the Euro. We used to get g bread rolls for a ?1 punt (?1.27) but pretty soon after the Euro came in they where raised to ?1.75. Its not that we can't afford ?1.75 for 6 bread rolls, but my dad refuses to pay that much for them in principal - therefore the Euro means I don't get a nice breakfast on holiday.

Stealing M$ products isn't Software Piracy, it's masochisme.

Posted by gian [send private reply] at August 18, 2002, 12:55:23 AM

I am convinced that Bill Gates is a sadist.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at August 18, 2002, 01:27:25 AM

I haven't said anything in a while

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at August 18, 2002, 06:27:51 AM

Some say Bill Gates is the devil, but I doubt the devil is that cruel.

Posted by diegoeskryptic [send private reply] at August 18, 2002, 11:20:06 AM

UGHHHH.... how did we go from Fat32 to Bill Gates?... NE way I downloaded Partition magic from Kazaalite.... and my system is back to fat32....

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at August 31, 2002, 02:37:11 PM

How is it Mascochisme, I need to know how to use M$ products so I can help others who are crap with computers and insist on using CrapWare - therefore I either shell ou ?3000 a year to him, or I copy the CDs of people who are sad enough to shell out for them.

In your case it's heroic. Sacrificing your own sanity to help others.
