hey,firstlyhow can i partition without formatting my drive.
secondly,my drive disappeared all of a sudden and tells me that it cant find 'remin.exe' file.thirdly,most of the softwares i have onmy pc have refusedto open.fourthly,i have been having problems installing norton antivirus,it stops responding when almost through with installation.or does anyone think i have a virus or something.i need some help hear.

1. there are programs for that. For example Partition magic (don't bother downloeding the demo, it doesn't do anything)
There are also several freeware progs that do the same thing, just use Google on nondestructive partitioning and make a backup before running such a program as these fail badly in case of power failure and the like.

for the latter: If you use a flavor of windows -> format and reinstal.

Actually, parted is such a program. I've read that it is designed so that the partition is in a recoverable state 99.9% of the time, or something of that order.

the best way to fix the problems would be to format your disk. Dont forget to backup what you need to first though. Also when you say your drive disapperaed, do u mean windows (or other os) no longer shows it? and what version of your OS are you using? I had huge trouble booting recently and it turned out that the actually HD was faulty.

go to kazaa or kazaalite... and get partition magic man... but like RED said... dont even bother with the demo version... its a waste of time.... i had to use partition magic to convert my system back to FAT32....

or format your hard drive and reinstall windows, making sure to back up your files first.
