Free Learning-Oriented Shell Accounts
Posted by taubz [send private reply] at July 04, 2001, 10:28:37 PM
I've got the server half-way up and running. It's got RH7.1. I spent the whole afternoon trying to figure out iptables, and now I know it's possible to set this up, since my Win98 computer is sitting "behind" it using DHCPd and Masquerading and all that jazz.
I should have this up during the weekend. Yay! (I'm excited.) Any suggestions about how to securly set it up, ideas for a name, ideas for what you'd want to do with a free learning-oriented shell account, etc. are all welcome. - taubz

We should be clever like the Open Projects IRC Network and have some common theme (theirs is science fiction authors' names) running through the names, and make them all ___.tpu.org.

Psion: Well, considering my rather large stock of computers (Over 10), I've got a whole 2001: A space oddesey thing going.
Being programming, we could use types! Brilliant! int.tpu.org bool.tpu.org char.tpu.org, I just would want to be the one having the tpye in the java ones: public.class.Something.extends.thread.tpu.org :-)

I actually like types. Maybe keywords.... I'm partial to inline or abstract.

I think I have to cast my vote for names of bugs/fatal exceptions.... some names to the effect of segmentation fault, division by 0, etc..

coredump.tpu.org... has a nice ring to it...

I do like the types, that's cool. coredump.tpu.org is catchy -- what else would be in that theme, or does it fall in the realm of bugs?

How about getting the book "Server Names for Dummies." I Saw it at best buy. It's a great book. It was only 99 cents . It's like one of those books for ppl who can't figure out a name for there baby.

So, it's been a month, but the server is finally running.... Psion, would you be able to set up lshells.tpu.org for me?
I have to set up a site for it, write some tutorials, and make sure the dev tools work, and then it will be set. If anyone wants to offer any assistance with that, I'll be glad to take it. I plan on having the server up till the end of the month. If the server becomes at all used, I'll try to keep it up after that. - taubz
