COMMDLG

Posted by Cortez [send private reply] at October 20, 2002, 08:57:41 AM

I'm currently having a stupid problem in Windows (98). When I'm using common dialog open, it sorts by date. Also this applies to everywhere in explorer, ie all the OS. How can I set it back to "sort by name"?

LOL, thats pathetic, under the address bar there should be a row of labels like name, size, type, date modified, etc, just click the one you want to sort by

Also, under viw, there is a submenu called "arrange icons by" which is rather self explanatory, there are probably at least 3 more ways to do this, but I'll try to let you keep some dignity

I think CodeRed meant "view" when he said "viw".

Too funny. I am NOT talking about how to sort them manually. I am talking about setting it back to "sort by name" in COMMON DIALOG boxes. (even though i sort them by name manually, the next time i open the open dialog box, it uses back the damned "sort by date")

I suspect there's a registery key that governs it, but I've no idea where it will be.

Somewhere there's an option that's something like "Make all folders like this one" under Folder Options...

Oh, you're using Windows 98, duh: reinstall. Takes ~30mins unless your CD-ROM drive is from the dark ages :).

The Registry Key can be found in the HKEY CURRENT USER coloumn of the registry, but I dont remember the exact location. Try doing a search in the registry for something like "sort" , or "arrange".
