Not meaning to be a promoter here but the last one i used (I didn't use it for long though, the site I was making fell apart) was:
www.netfirms.com

Does anyone know where to get free hosting that supports servlets?

Posted by ItinitI [send private reply] at November 15, 2002, 12:16:56 PM

I currently use Geocities UK; and DOT.tk for domain.

Posted by vladimir_l [send private reply] at November 15, 2002, 01:00:28 PM

Well really these BIG hosts are crapp ( e.g. Netfirms ) there are MANY MANY MANY free hosts , some without banners , that are availible in SPECIAL DIRECTOREIS. You can like use the Power Search in those to search for hosts with FTP , Telnet e.t.c. A good one is www.hut.ru , they provide FTP and Telnet.

TO Vlad_L : "Does this have anything to do with TPU or Programming>?" WEll yes it does because I plan on using HTML. Is that not programming? and anyway, it is posted in the General Forum. And who are you? I know you arent the same Vladimir that supposedly done away with computers? Maybe you are just a reincarnation? ah!....

Posted by ItinitI [send private reply] at November 15, 2002, 05:22:56 PM

I seem to think it is he is Vladimir Lukyanov, however his personality does seem to have shifted from an A blood type to more a B or AB blood type.

Posted by Neumann [send private reply] at November 15, 2002, 05:23:57 PM

If by that you mean 'bloody annoying' you are right.

Posted by ItinitI [send private reply] at November 15, 2002, 08:00:16 PM

Blood types are a way of categorizeing some ones personality. [He doesn't seem very 'bloody annoying' to me]

Posted by buzgub [send private reply] at November 15, 2002, 08:16:43 PM

Itintl, blood types have nothing to do with personality. There's a personality measuring system that looks almost like blood types, which is probably what lead to your confusion.

Posted by ItinitI [send private reply] at November 15, 2002, 08:30:03 PM

Eh, it's ItinitI [2 I's]. And no, I m not confused. A, B, AB, and O are the basic personality sets, that are called blood types [These are also used in Anime for the same purpose].

Posted by mop [send private reply] at November 15, 2002, 10:23:31 PM

HTML is programming now!?
not saying that I think that this post doesn't belong here.

Posted by ItinitI [send private reply] at November 15, 2002, 11:01:27 PM

Eh, some people call it a programming language, I tend to disagree however.

Posted by CViper [send private reply] at November 16, 2002, 06:17:01 AM

A, B, AB and 0 are "real" blood types too; in an blood transfusion it's important that you get the same blood type or type 0 (zero), which is "compatible" with all types (if I remember by biology lessons correctly). So buzgub is correct: blood types have nothing to do with personality.

Posted by taubz [send private reply] at November 16, 2002, 09:50:09 AM

/me laughs at Type A personality vs Type A blood confusion.

Posted by vladimir_l [send private reply] at November 16, 2002, 01:02:15 PM

Yeah i suppose i was wrong. PHP/Perl are programming and i thought you were after PHP/Perl compliant hosts.... hmmm i'm still struggling with Fortran CGI.

Posted by ItinitI [send private reply] at November 16, 2002, 09:36:41 PM

I understand that they have nothing to do with blood types, but thats what they're reffered to, why, I have no clue.

Posted by Mike_L [send private reply] at November 16, 2002, 11:06:51 PM

Some Japanese believe that a personality is related to blood type. I don't know if there is any scientific evidence to support this, but apprently there are people that can guess your blood type very well by observing your personality and how you relate to people of known blood type.

Posted by mop [send private reply] at November 16, 2002, 11:15:14 PM

your blood type is decided by a molecule attached to your red blood cells, nothing to do with the make-up of your brain.

Posted by Mike_L [send private reply] at November 17, 2002, 02:02:31 AM

And the brain is a chemical thing. Your comment is pure speculation.

Posted by mop [send private reply] at November 17, 2002, 01:52:13 PM

its not specualation.
The proteins on the surface of your blood called agglutinogens are decided by your genotype. The proteins trigger enzymatic reactions to make sure there is no other blood in your system. The only thing this has to do with behaviour, is that people in closed off parts of the world will not have as intermingled blood as other people because the gene pool will be more familiar.

That and your brain isn't made out of blood. The blood just gives the brain stuff.

Posted by taubz [send private reply] at November 17, 2002, 06:51:15 PM

You haven't proved that the gene that determines blood type doesn't also affect brain chemistry and personality.

Posted by mop [send private reply] at November 17, 2002, 09:16:44 PM

the genes that determine blood type are directly inherited, so thats like saying your personality is exactly the same as your parents.

Posted by taubz [send private reply] at November 17, 2002, 10:13:01 PM

A single gene can influence overt behavior without completely controlling it. For instance, the blood type protein in the blood cells might have an effect on the neurotransmitter receptors in the brain's neurons. By minutely affecting those receptors in the brain, a person's mood could be drastically affected (antidepressant drugs, for example).

So, the blood type A gene produces the protein that makes someone have blood type A, and that protein affects the brain, and that causes the person's mood to be affected, which in turn causes him to be a type A personality.

Of course, this is all false (afaik!). But it is plausible.

This is the psychology major part of me talking.

this is the sort of side tracking my post about side tracking was going on about ^^ Not that I mind this one mind you, quite amuzing ^^

Posted by CViper [send private reply] at November 18, 2002, 12:40:51 PM

What is a type A personality? I mean, how do you class someone type A instead of ... 0 or whatever? What are the common traits of each class?

To me it seems a bit like classing all plants into trees, bushes and <insert something else here>, eg a slightly futile task :/

Posted by ItinitI [send private reply] at November 18, 2002, 01:50:32 PM

Supposedly, A type tends to be more out going [extrovert], while B tends to be more of an introvert. AB, is somewhat of a combonation of the two, and 0 has various mixed feelings.

OK thanks CDR.. i have all i need to know... Now i need some help on tweaking.....

Posted by DragonWolf [send private reply] at November 19, 2002, 04:01:14 AM

diego: change that jumper setting... there..

Hmm.. from those blood type descriptions, that would make me a B or perhaps an AB. But since I've never had any blood taken, I guess I'll never know.

Posted by taubz [send private reply] at November 19, 2002, 08:11:10 AM

I've never heard of AB and 0 personality types. I'd guess that those terms were coined after the original A/B types based on the blood type labels.

jumper setting? I dont have a clue...
