I Am Looking For A Programmer for a Virtual Petsite

Posted by jamieshim [send private reply] at December 08, 2002, 12:31:41 PM

I'm the owner of a fansite (http://vextreme.tk) for Virtumon.com. I need a programmer to help me run the fansite...I'm looking to create accounts for people who sign up, and they can collect points and earn cool prizes from them.

Is this really complex? If you are interested, please post here or email me at jamie13shim@hotmail.com

Thanx!
Jamie

Your using brinkster, which only has ASP and maybe some flavour of SQL, so that rules out a bunch of us.

Actually, for the programming bit, (like the forums) I'm using Lycos.co.uk...but I can always change hosts

oh, okay.
we'd have a better idea of our eligibility if you provided more information for what we need to make and what we have to make it with.

Well, I'm guessing that maybe that's what he/she needs help with.

BTW, what kind of forums are you using??

What i'm looking for is to create accounts where people can collect VE Points throughout the website, be able to edit their own profile, have trophies...kind of like a Virtual site.

I'm looking for someone to get creative with it...almost anything flows with me.

I'm using the PhpBB Forums, but they're not working right now...I don't know why. I think the host is down.

okay, I recommend moving to a host with PHP so you would be able to host the phpBB forum on it, as well, I am profficient in php and could help if no one else can.

Hes looking for a programmer, not a place to host his site.

True, but in order for the use of the PhpBB and the things he/she wanst programmed, might possibly require a different host

I was being only helpfull in offering my experience for freebies on the net. However a good thing better than PhpBB that doesnt even need SQL is SimpleBB or SimpleBBS. I forgot the link but you should find it on google.com/hotscripts.com.

simpleBBS is a great program.

they are virtually all the same so I wouldn't worry, that little file manager that tripod/angelfire has? Its a third party program that they and many other hosts pay for.. unless you use PHP without mySQL and need to chmod the files which in most cases you can only do with an FTP account to your webspace as well.

I _am_ willing if no one else is able to, and I would prefer most to program in PHP (I don't care whether or not mySQL is available), so I recomend flatface or that dnsau one.

CDR700, do you know if either of them have FTP access?

MMM All the options i provided were ftp compliant and tested and used by me, but hurry these great stop admission !!!

Portland.co.uk - Free account comes with FTP , either subdomain ( selection avalible ) or domain ( if user has one , just change the IPS tag [ thats for .uk domains ] or the DNS ). Scripting is PHP4 ( careful its 4.0.1 !!! ), Perl 5 and ESP binaries are availible , mysql is avalible for free also. DOES NOT HOST FORUMS/PORTALS POWERED BY A LOT OF HEAVY SCRIPTING.

FlatFace.net - Offers a /~you with great things. PHP4/CGI/Perl as standard MySQL avalible and Telnet/SSH1 shell included. Has a paid hosting scheme that offers nearly 2gb of space and domain hosting for $25 a year. FTP avalible and online file manager. Not all sites accepted.
