Try both, use the one you like better. :)

WindowMaker.

I would reccomed trying them both ad using whichever you like best as suggested.

KDE is more 'built together', than GNOME. But, I think GNOME is more nicer looking [This may be an issue depending on your machine]. And KDE uses Knqueror as it's GUI shell, while GNOME uses Nautilus as it's GUI shell [Seemed slower to me].

I use KDE.

Nautilus got really much better in RH8.0. In Gnome 1, Nautilus was very very slow and difficult to use. Now, in Gnome 2, it's not slow and not quite as difficult to use.

Oh, really? That's good to here, being that was my primary objection to GNOME as it severly slowed up on my machine, however I might try the new RH8 and GNOME in the future.

Redhat 8 is really nothing like any other distro I've seen... it feels "polished".

I couldn't stand RedHat 8, slackware is definitely worth it.

I just finished installing RedHat 8 (had some little troubles installing it) and I must say that Bluecurve is a SWEEET GUI.

IMHO Gnome, I don't think its very much slower, moreover it comes with a help viewer for info and man. Thats a useful thing for lazy fellows like me.

of course, the viewer is one of the worst pieces of ui design. the mouse wheel doesn't work and the manpages are divided on the basis of directory. makes everything a bit difficult.

also all the fancy things like window-maker and twm and so on are also good. there's one more thing you can do - write your own.

The mouse wheel not working is most likely your Xfree configuration, Gnome (as far as I know) doesn't handle that.

Nautilus is very well one of the worst programs I have had the misfortune of using.

I use window-maker because it isn't nearly as fancy as the others. I don't care much for the alpha effects and animated crap, I want it as simple and as unintrusive as possible.
