My parents gave me this excellent book called Applied Cryptography by Bruce Schneier (ISBN 0471117099). It has info about all kinds of codes, code breaking, and lots of stuff on computer cryptography. You can get the book at Amazon.com,

The author has a company that does network security stuff. He also puts out a monthly newsletter called the Crypto-Gram. The website is http://www.counterpane.com/

I dont have experience in programming, linux, etc. Do you think it'll still help me?

The book has nothing to do with Linux. It is about cryptography.

The Handbook of applied Cryptography is excellent but deeply involved mathematically. I have the whole thing by chapter in pdf's, but i didn't really understand most of it because of my mathematical level. I have a printed copy of Applied Cryptography and found it was a great read and still had all the technical details i needed to implement the techniques in the book in programs i write.
