how to check for free space on disk and...

hi!
i am new to linux and i am reading linux programming guide. i have a question 1. how to check for free space in linux and 2. how to configure the resolution ( like 640x480, 800x600, etc in windows)? let me know if you know Please YOGI

It kinda depends on your Distro for the resolution... but the Disk space I can help you with.
"df" (without the quotes) will do the trick.

For resolution, log in as root and type Xconfigurator (I think that's it). You can reconfigure everything about X, including setting up more supported resolutions. From within X, I think you can switch with [ctrl]-[alt]-+ I'm not sure though...and it all might depend on the distro.

One way to change the resolution is to mess with the XF86Config file (look for man pages/books/other documentation on "XF86Config")
