Why on earth do you want to limit yourself to Borland?

in case you don't know, it's not an ide, just command line tools, you'll probably have to set up your autoexec.bat file to get it working without needing to enter the full address to it's bin directory

DJGPP? http://www.delorie.com/djgpp/ is their URL. For games, you can use the allegro library with DJGPP from http://www.talula.demon.co.uk/allegro/

I know that, but will dev-c++ with mingw32 be a viable proposition for game creation for someone who doesn't want to spend all day messing with things....

not sure exactly what dev-c++ is...but i would still recommend allegro...it compiles with djgpp, cygwin, mingw32, linux and beos...so, it's pretty portable

dev-c++ is an IDE that comes with mingw32 included. I couldn't get allegro to compile with that when I tried half a year ago, which is why I advised against it for games.

6 months is a long time for a piece of software (ie allegro) that is constantly being updated. i have successfully compiled allegro with mingw32, so i would suggest you download the latest version of allegro and try again.
