Being new to the list(s), I've decided to offer a bit of my mind. I've been studying the linux kernel for upwards of two years now. If anyone is interested in learning more about OS design, processor architecture, memory management, etc. Drop a line in this thread. Hope to hear from the interested soon.

Gian: Ever toyed with OSKit? It's mostly the BSD kernel with wrapper code that allows you to implement most of the "fun" parts of an OS without writing drivers, filesystems, etc. Truth be known, I'd never commit myself to writing a full OS in the near future.

I don't see any reason not to copy out portions of an open source kernel (*BSD or Linux)for its drivers, etc. Writing a whole OS is (scuse the french) a pain in the ass. Tried it, not going to do it unless it must be done.

Isn't the whole reason of linux and the whole "free to anyone" idea of it, that we can modify it in any way we want??

that's what i've read about it
