msn messenger? grab a nightly cvs tarball from gaim.sourceforge.net then follow the standard instructions: extract (probably with "gunzip gaim-CVS.tar.gz" then "tar -xf gaim-CVS.tar"), then cd into the gaim-CVS directory, configure("./configure"), make ("make), then su to root ("su -" then type your password) then cd back to your gaim-CVS directory and install ("make install"). then, run gaim with "gaim", load the msn plugin, then make a new account. use ur hotmail address (have_dinner@hotmail.com i believe) as screen name and msn as protocol. then, hit "connect".

Hang on: I just checked the gaim website. you prolly want to grab pre15 rather than a CVS nightly. you probably want to grab the RPM of that.

how do i now run the program?

you need to be in x... you probably are. if you installed an rpm look in the menu under programs, internet, gaim. you need to load the msn plugin, tho.

click the picture of a monitor next to the start menu-like thingamajig. Then, type "gaim" and press enter. That should give you some info on what's not working.

Why don't you two get a room or something?

Posted by buzgub [send private reply] at September 01, 2001, 09:01:33 PM

the msn plugin is libmsn.so (I think....) and you add it by clicking the plugin button, then selecting "libmsn.so"... That *should* all work.

buz... another thing... my windows boot disk only boots to the stupid command prompt... how do i get my windows back? like, i've tried loading it from the command prompt but it keeps halting my system...
or when linux is booting up should i choose dos instead of linux or something?

It sounds like you've not got lilo working. I've not got a clue how to do that, because I've never *tried* to do that outside of RH setup. Some of the automatic installs wipe out your whole disk so you might have lost your windows partition.

nah, i've got all my files... taht's the thing... anyway, i'm gonna reboot now... i'll see how i go
