Well I have a problem with my modem. First of all I have never really used this modem due to the fact that I didnt need to since I had a broadband connection. Now however the stupid company is canceling their service so that I must revert to dial-up. Ok, heres whats going on. I try dialing into the ISP and it seems to be going all right and everything then it just says it didnt get an answer and then thats about it. I have no clue of what to do at this point. I would be grateful for any help I might get. By the way im using Windows 98 and the modem is a HPS56 MicroModem. Thanks.

Maybe you're not using the right number, or it's really busy. Try dialing in at different times and see if it gets better. How'd you post, anyway?

goto Control Panel->Modems->Properties->Connection tab
in the 'Call preferences' disable 'Wait for dial tone before dialing'. i had a problem with this setting at home and i think this may help you. Don't forget to restore if it doesn't work. :)
