TopCoder for all!

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at December 10, 2001, 06:52:14 PM

Some of you may be familiar with TopCoder from my earlier posts or whatnot. If so, you'll know that there was an issue that you had to be at least 18 years of age and live in the USA to participate in their online, head-to-head programming competitions. Well, starting in mid-January, anyone who doesn't meet these requirements will still be allowed to participate, albeit without any chance to win prize money! You will be able to compete for money if you are 18+ years old and live in whatever the set of countries they've expanded to at that time is. (Currently, it's USA and its territories, Canada minus Quebec, and Australia.) You can get more info at http://www.topcoder.com/

Since when?

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at December 10, 2001, 08:43:05 PM

Since I went up there with a BB gun and took 'em over :)

I'm going to let Lordaerom sort you out. There's a little TPU tradition we call the INTERNATIONAL PITCHFORK OF JUSTICE(tm). You will find it both painful and yet strangely pleasant.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at December 11, 2001, 12:18:29 AM

Ill take my International Rail-Driver of Mayhem over your little pitchfork any day

Could you two perhaps stop corrupting every single active thread?

When will the US discover the rest of this planet. (except for the not-so-rare occasions they feel the need to trow a few tons of Whatever-that-is-harmfull on some country, especially if that country contains people with weird names like Bin Laden, Sadam Hoesein and such) Seems to me the US divided the planet in 3 parts: The US, the part to bomb and the part to ignore. (And what is wrong with Quebec?)

I wonder why it seems like no one even read my message.

The country restrictions come from stringent laws on contests that award money, different for every country. Lawyers have to make sure the way the contests are run is compliant for every geographic area from which they allow competitors.

How did the whole "I 0wnz t0pc0d3r" thing go for you, Psion?

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at December 11, 2001, 01:42:51 PM

RedX... We are not attacking Afghanistan because they have funny names, we are attacking them because they DESTROYED THE LARGEST BUILDING IN THE U.S. WHICH WAS FULL OF INNOCENT CIVILLIANS AT THE TIME. Terrorism will not be tolerated, and if we have to obliterate an entire country (which we've pretty much already done) to put a stop to it, then so be it.

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at December 11, 2001, 02:38:03 PM

By that reasoning, Vietnam should be carpet bombing your neighborhood as we speak.

Posted by gian [send private reply] at December 11, 2001, 04:42:34 PM

Psion: Lol
CodeRed: Can I please remind you that Bin Laden is actually Saudi Arabian, and is only an Afganistanistan resident. Plus, it was an individual (or group of) that destroyed what was ONCE upon a time the largest building in the US. Get your facts straight before you go and display your predjudices.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at December 11, 2001, 06:29:18 PM

Afghanistan was providing bin laden and his organization asylum. We made our demands perfectly clear, to hand him over, before we attacked. Afghanistan decided to ignore our demand, we took action, I don't see a problem. In Vietnam 5 year old kids were killing American soldiers. Old men and women were given weapons and instructed to snipe any american that entered their village. I do not condone the killing of civillians in vietnam, but I understand that they couldn't have been sure who the enemy was, and I am damn sure that we never fired on a group of people before they fired on us.

Posted by AngelOD [send private reply] at December 11, 2001, 07:51:02 PM

That's a load of crap, CR! Ofcourse the soldiers fired at a group of people first! It would be naive to think that American soldiers weren't affected by the fear the way the natives were. It's pretty obvious that if you know someone might shoot at you if they see you, then you'll make sure you get the first shot.. If American soldiers never fired first, then it would be because they were always spotted first, which would make them lousy soldiers, so I don't know what you want to believe.

Maybe they just had higher moral standards than you...

Posted by grandsnafu [send private reply] at December 11, 2001, 08:09:26 PM

It really is Hollman!

Posted by grandsnafu [send private reply] at December 11, 2001, 08:15:54 PM

Oh, sorry. I didn't read the other threads of earlier that alluded to the fact that yes, he is Hollman. Sorry.

Posted by gian [send private reply] at December 11, 2001, 11:24:57 PM

CodeRed, notice you are the only one here with any patriotism... many of us, including myself are Americans, but only you are gobbling down the propaganda as quickly as the Whitehouse can make it. Once again, you have no opinions of your own. Well, you do here, but they are someone else's. Patriotism leads to racism, and you, I noticed are the most patriotic here. Also, you seem to be the most racist, homophobic and overall predjudiced person here... so it figures.

Posted by AngelOD [send private reply] at December 12, 2001, 05:16:38 AM

*pliff*

Gian is right.. Not that it's a first or surprising or anything, just that it's so amazingly accurate.. :D

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at December 12, 2001, 08:07:31 AM

Patriotism means thinking that your country is the greatest nation ever simply because you were born in it.

CR: Afganistan provided support for Bin Laden. The US trained them in the first place to fight against the evil USSR. Now, when they are done leveling Afganistan, will they bomb the responsible agencies in the US too?
It's easy to say Bin Laden attacked first. Ever wondered why he wanted to go through all the troubel getting a bunch of idiots together and attack a country with superior militairy power? Perhaps the US isn't as innocent as the White House wants you to believe. On what information do you base your statements? Probably the official goverment-selected 'facts'. (US good, always successful, no casualties, no innocent people killed VS Bin Laden bad, always fails, dropping like flies, doing bad thing to innocent people While on Bin Laden's side the same thing is told, just with the names swapped)
To summarize: You don't know what happened or is happening at the moment, neighter do I or the rest of the population, excluding the soldiers fighting and the commanding officers. all we know is what they want us to believe. (Or did you really think any of them would admit they are loosing?)
Beside the US has already lost. They can remove Bin Laden and company off the face of the planet. The WTC and it's inhabitants are gone forever.

Ever heard of the associated press, RedX? They are not government controlled. About patriotism, if you're not willing to support you're country, in any way necessary, you don't deserve to live in it.

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at December 12, 2001, 08:48:32 AM

Maybe I should just delete this thread and start again.

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at December 12, 2001, 04:41:55 PM

I hope I don't deserve to live in this country (Hint: Europe union: currently leading country).
Associated press not government controlled? As if they would be allowed to publish anything not government approved about the war. Mass media is a powerfull weapon, any government knows that. And in war, they would never let the press mess up their supply of patriotic idiots.

Psion: sorry for messing up this thread.

*SIGH* Why don't you guys use VBulletin?

Posted by gian [send private reply] at December 12, 2001, 09:32:36 PM

Because, this is far superior. Who needs little stupid icons anyway?

Posted by ronybc [send private reply] at December 14, 2001, 11:06:35 AM

----=<[ a little rascal told ]>=----- "Afghanistan decided to ignore our demand, we took action, I don't see a problem. In Vietnam 5 year old kids were killing American soldiers."

phrrrr.... i pity you... and that 5 year old Vietnam kid is more real than your fuckin patriotism(of having big bombs)..... USAsshole.

Posted by ronybc [send private reply] at December 14, 2001, 11:19:02 AM

"Human beings is the cancer of this planet..."
This hell is gonna end very soon. Psion... switch off your server.

There are (and were) innocent peoples all over the world. Not only on your fallen WTC. And war is not just a CNN news... you idiots. It hurts... something like WTC (now you know it a bit).
No..... i'm NOT a tali-fan.. but i HATE that bloody bush and his ancestor bastards. i hate administrators... from this silly gian to that bloody US president. :) goodnight.

Posted by Psion [send private reply] at December 14, 2001, 11:42:26 AM

ronybc, no, YOU shut off YOUR server!!!! ANd your MOUTH young man!!!!!!

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at December 14, 2001, 12:47:32 PM

Hmmm... has rony ever discussed programming on here, or does he just look for message boards to post on because he is lonely?

Posted by taubz [send private reply] at December 14, 2001, 02:38:56 PM

Sounds familiar, eh CodeRed?

Posted by gian [send private reply] at December 14, 2001, 04:01:08 PM

hehhehehe... nicely said, Taubz.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at December 14, 2001, 04:03:48 PM

I've discussed plenty of programming related topics, thank you.

Posted by gian [send private reply] at December 14, 2001, 04:50:04 PM

Yes, but compared to your unrelated, needless posts....

Posted by eternaldisciple [send private reply] at December 15, 2001, 07:24:51 AM

I'm debating whether you've attracted or repelled more young upcoming programmers with your senseless bickering....I'm going to have to say the latter option. When you guys offer help and advice it's great stuff. But a lot of the time you sound like children younger than your prospective audience. I'll be hard pressed to come back here. Just for anyone who cares.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at December 15, 2001, 12:17:52 PM

This forum is pretty much dead anyways. On average how many questions do you think are posted each week, I guess 2. If more people were asking questions there would be more for us to do, but since nobody is we find other ways to ammuse ourselves, at least I do. This forum gets probably 1 new post per day, another forum I belong to (www.ForumOC.com) gets hundreds a day, AND they use VBulletin ;).

Posted by AngelOD [send private reply] at December 15, 2001, 05:14:02 PM

Aah.. But if you only take the useful questions, then you're probably down to the 2 as well.. :P

Posted by eternaldisciple [send private reply] at December 16, 2001, 11:01:28 AM

Either way, wouldn't it just be easier to put Hollman and gian in a large cage and give them clubs?

Posted by gian [send private reply] at December 16, 2001, 08:10:25 PM

No, it would be easier to just put him in a cage, and then neither I nor anyone else would have a problem with him.

Posted by eternaldisciple [send private reply] at December 19, 2001, 08:31:38 PM

He'd probably fight himself to the death anyway.
