Visual C++

Im a moron...and I dont know much <smile> but I was wondering if Visual C++ was a useful language to learn if I wanted to eventually make video games...

Well you will need to know c/c++ to make games really. You dont need to know much visual c++ to make games. Just a basic game loop and how to make a window.

And a API. DirectX or openGL, both have their (dis)advantages.

yes, and we wont go into which is best. because they do the same thing. It comes down to coding style. Driect X is writen one way, Open GL another. Use whichever best suits your style.
