Western Digital Hard drive not working

Posted by Linux_Penguin [send private reply] at March 17, 2002, 08:54:44 PM

On my computer I have two removable bays that I use for different hard drives. Thus far I use XP and SuSE in the top. The bottom is intended for the spare. However my spare doesn't seem to be recognized by the computer.
The channel is open and the drive is set to slave. However upon inserting the dive it makes a sound like 'whoot, whoot' which is deep and kind of long. I am thinking that the drive is busted.
I went to the Western Digital website to see if there was some kind of utility availible. There was but every time I download it the file is corrupt (probably XP).

BTW: If it helps the drive is a WD Expert 418000, the model # is AC418000. I have tried as much as I can think of so if you know something I don't please help
