Learning projects, again
Posted by taubz [send private reply] at June 09, 2001, 07:33:25 PM
I'm still kinda in to doing learning projects, even if I don't see myself having enough time. Maybe what we should do is take a poll of TPU visitors to see what kind of learning projects would be most likely to succeed. If you guys think it's a good idea, I'll set up a poll on my server and post a news item.
I'm thinking we would ask whether the person knows OOP, has experience with algorithms, would be interested in participating (duh), knows/has C or Java or Perl... - taubz

I don't think the whole model of deliberately combining actually trying to make something with learning works too well. You need to have the idea of what to make first and really want to get there for it to work, or so it seems.

I think the learning projects are flopping badly... I say we sortof focus on actually recruiting new members, and therefore making the web boards more lively. As has been reinforced many, many times by many people, TPU is a social tool, rather than a teaching one.

Well, IMO it is both. The message boards are more teaching than social (nowadays), but it definitely has social aspects. The learning projects would just be an extension of the teaching aspect.... But, okey.

See, I'm talking (though indirectly) to you right now... we are bonding, and socializing, isn't that special for us?
