Linux for PS2

Posted by FatalDragon [send private reply] at June 10, 2002, 09:20:29 PM

Anyone used it? What distro is it based on? Does it run slowly/choppy on PS2 since PS2 only has a 32MB RAM and 291MHz CPU? ThanX!

I didn't know the PS2 used an OS, very interesting (or stupid and pointless, I can't decide).

no codered, you can get Linux as an addon to allow you to use the PS2 for other things such as programming and stuff

Yeah, you can use Linux to program apps for PS2, and games I guess. The kit comes with 40GB HDD, Modem, TV/moniter cable.
I was just wondering if Linux ran slowly on PS2 since PS2 only has a 291MHz CPU and 32MB RAM? I gues you can use a PS2 memory card to make an 8MB Swap partition though.

Yes. There is even a Debian port to it. http://www.m17n.org/linux-sh/debian/ . I think that it runs on more than just the DC (anything that has a SuperH processor), but see http://www.m17n.org/linux-sh/ for the definite answer.
