Is it safe to sign up at TheNebiesArea.com?

Posted by FatalDragon [send private reply] at June 22, 2002, 11:58:30 AM

Is it safe to sign up there? Cause when you go to the site, on the home page it shows a readout of whats on your hardrive. I signed up, but I put classified for all the fields I could (name, address, ect.). Thanx!

They can't see whats on your harddrive, only the person viewing the page sees that, it's an old trick, nothing to worry about.

Ok, wasnt sure about that, thanx!

That site is so very un-cool. Let's point and laugh at FatalDragon for signing up at a hacking/cracking site (and a site that can't even make proper distinctions between the two).

Lol! You caught me! I wanted to know how poeple hack, I dont intend to actuly hack anyone.

As far as I can tell, no one simply "hacks." I'd imagine any unauthorized entry onto computers these days involves very complex buffer overruns. So, you can't really expect to find a website that teaches hacking.

I was just trying to find out how someone gains access to a computer that they are not physicaly present at.
And I did notices some of the texts were rather old, like one was typed in 1988, others were made in the early/mid 90s.

With an SSH client and a legitimate Username & Password.

Posted by FatalDragon [send private reply] at June 22, 2002, 08:06:59 PM

True, but I was referring to how people without a legit name/passwd could do that.

Idle hands are the devils workshop...

Posted by FatalDragon [send private reply] at June 22, 2002, 10:18:42 PM

Lol, Im not turning to the dark side...

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at June 22, 2002, 10:48:24 PM

...So put them in your pants and get to work :)

Posted by FatalDragon [send private reply] at June 23, 2002, 09:12:10 AM

Get to work doing what?

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at June 23, 2002, 07:19:01 PM

Oh, I forgot, this place is full of prepubescent kids... never mind then

Posted by FatalDragon [send private reply] at June 23, 2002, 08:30:10 PM

Could you please give me a little more insight as to what you meant?

Posted by AngelOD [send private reply] at June 24, 2002, 03:37:54 AM

FatalDragon, if you didn't get it, then you're simply not old enough. :)

Posted by buzgub [send private reply] at June 24, 2002, 06:25:27 AM

Not so much "not old enough" as "not worldly enough".

Posted by mrnorman [send private reply] at July 01, 2002, 03:02:58 AM

I agree, some of us choose not to indulge the uhem, 'lesser', jokes of this world.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at July 01, 2002, 05:44:14 PM

You agree? With who?

Posted by FatalDragon [send private reply] at July 02, 2002, 04:57:44 PM

What's "lesser"?

Posted by sphinX [send private reply] at July 05, 2002, 01:39:38 AM

This thread is incredibly amusing.

Posted by DragonWolf [send private reply] at July 08, 2002, 08:08:55 AM

If I start telling people about hacking methods will I get in sh*t?
Most of the stuff I'd talk about is outdated now anywayz ^^

Yes, you will recieve a private meeting with Lordaerom holding the International Pitchfork Of Justice (IPOJ). It will hurt, I promise you.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at July 08, 2002, 09:28:23 PM

Haven't heard about the IPOJ in a while, I thought it was retired LOL

Posted by gian [send private reply] at July 08, 2002, 09:44:34 PM

I just drag it out of the closet every once and a while so that people who remember it go "Oooohhh... that's right!".

Actually, the method used to display the contents of your hard drive using javascript isn't harmless.

There is a clever javascript hack that can store that information into a variable which can then be passed into redirect url's querystring (blah.com?FileInfo=".....")

Blah.com's website can then grab that the FileInfo querystring and record it into it's database.

This technique has been used by lots of malicious people to steal password files stored in a common location.

Better go and patch IE! Most out-of-the-box XP,2000,ME are affected by this.

I thought it was just an IFRAME that pointed to your root directory...

Posted by buzgub [send private reply] at July 19, 2002, 11:58:02 PM

I suspect that javascript can use the name of that iframe to access it's contents in insecure browsers
