now then.. about c*pitalism..
Pure free market doesn't work and pure state control doesn't work.

We should all just mix and get along. *opens arms in a hugging gesture* now let us all sing "Cum by ya, MY LORD!"

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at September 27, 2002, 11:47:59 AM

All those -isms come down to the same thing: The friends of the leaders get rich. All the other get food (sometimes) and (plenty and underpaid) work.
Now who wants to support my New World Order and get to be part of the rich ones? The one who conquers the US for the New World Order gets to pick an apropriate new job for B.Gates.

Posted by unknown_lamer [send private reply] at September 27, 2002, 02:43:21 PM

In Anarchy everyone is a leader so I guess that makes us all friends of the leaders so we all get rich. Or something like that.

Posted by whizkide [send private reply] at September 27, 2002, 02:45:24 PM

authoritarianism is cool as long as you are the one in power. You get rich and everyone else sucks up to you

....or kills you

Posted by DragonWolf [send private reply] at September 27, 2002, 03:30:34 PM

I believe you need a group of leaders, not one. (though I know this can cause problems with factions and disagreements and as China has pretty much proved, corruption) and that people should be able to do what they want as long as it doesn't effect other people in a bad way (basically the law, but I feel people should be monitored more (not like watching them all the time but something else)

Having one leader can lead to dictatorship which has always been the case in history. You get some guy become president of the US who has alot of high powered supporters and feared by the others and good bye world ^^ hmmm.. bit like Bush declaring war on Iraq.

... can anyone tell me what this political discussion has to do with the visitors we had on TPU?

Posted by DragonWolf [send private reply] at September 27, 2002, 03:36:37 PM

Psion's dictatorship of course. LONG LIVE PSION! RULER OF THE INTERNET!

Posted by gian [send private reply] at September 27, 2002, 03:54:49 PM

DragonWolf, you suggest "dictatorship"... I used to think something similar, but I've come to realize that Psion is the de facto "leader" (we don't really operate like that), only because it's a one horse race! If you don't like the way he runs things, then start helping out.

Posted by DragonWolf [send private reply] at September 27, 2002, 03:57:33 PM

its good because he gets all the blame when nothing works.. But no body is brave enough to tell him... ALL PH33R H15 L337 6|<1Ll5

What? You suggest far more organization than really exists... If you want to do something positive to do with TPU, then no one will stop you.

RATM used that line which was origionally in the book 1984, by George Orwell in their song "Testify".

Actuall I believe in a mixed economy, similar to the UK(The UK isn't perfect though), with an elected president. Actually I think Ireland is a better model. But Ireland had a lot of corruption in the seventies/eighties and Im not sure if it still does now.

Posted by DragonWolf [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 04:43:54 AM

I believe Ireland has one of the most stable and reliable governments now but don't quote me on that ^^

In theory alot of these systems should work. With the current debate on the issue with the war on Iraq. Should UK not go to war my faith in the UK Government remains solid, since 167 MPs against and 18 MPs for the war is pretty much impossible to swing around.

My faith in the UN is stronger now that I know they are against the US ^^ then again... they could have planned it that way... DAMN CONSPIRACIES!

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 06:59:21 AM

"My faith in the UN is stronger now that I know they are against the US"

The US doesn't like it when someone says (writes) something like this. Some more of this and they might start doing precision bombing, so next time you say something like this: be kind and warn those people who live 2 blocks away.

Posted by DragonWolf [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 07:03:46 AM

Its just that people fear that the UN is run by the US. So the fact that they arn't following the US like mindless sheep means they are not run by the US.
I don't think we should go to war with Iraq but I do feel something needs doing about it. Which is the UN's viewpoint.

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 07:12:19 AM

That war with Iraq is actually a war between Iraq and the Bush familly. Bush Sr started the first golfwar because juniors oilfield were at stake. Now junior wants more oilfields and Iraq happens to lay in the way.
First they want to get rid of Saddam. Then they put their own specially selected dictator in his place (just like they did with the Taliban). And then, the worst part, they start making movies about how they saved the world from evil Iraq.

Posted by DragonWolf [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 07:28:02 AM

Iraq isn't evil, Saddam Hussein is evil ^^

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 09:43:23 AM

I was being sarcastic. :-p Beside Saddam is exactly the same as Bush and their nonsense will result in another boring PR-war.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 10:03:26 AM

You know what I wish? I wish the United States would withdraw from the UN completely. I wish we would cut off all relations with all other countries, dissallow immigration into this country, and place restrictions on US citizens leaving the country. I wish we would erect a 1000' wall around the United States 10 miles from the shore and along the boarder with canada, then devote our entire military to patrolling that wall on land, sea, and in the air. We should then develope the most sophisticated anti ballistic missile system known to man to further protect ourselves from any and all forms of attack. We would be completely self reliant, we would no longer interfer in other nations business, giving them no reason to be hostile towards us. We should segregate ourself from the rest of the world to the point that new technological developements stay entirely inside our boarders.Within 100 years the United States would become nothing more than a mystery to the rest of the world, no one would know anything about us, and some would even doubt our existance. THAT is what I wish we would do.

Posted by CViper [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 10:09:32 AM

actually, you just have to build a 1000m wall around bush (and a few other leaders/politicans out there) to solve alot of problems...

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 10:31:58 AM

Do you actually know why the US is going to war with Iraq?

1) America's economy is failing. More oil is needed. If they invaded and secured Iraq, oil would be able to flow into the US at the same price as sea water(well, almost)
2)Bush only got into power because in the California recount, Bushs brother (or some relation) stopped it before Bush became threatened. Al Gore in actual fact should have won(I'm not saying this because I prefer him. I'm Irish and therefore impartial to American Politics). Bush needs to rally public support for him in the next election(Its not that long away). If you think this is non-sensical think back to the Fawklands war. Maggie Thatcher was never going to be reelected for a third term in office in Britain. Before the war she hadd been trying to give the Fawklands to Argentina, but then she decided that she'd attack Argentina for the publicity. And it worked!
3) The whole family feud thing.

Posted by diegoeskryptic [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 10:42:42 AM

hey codered.. that will never happen.. this country flourishes from the labor services of immigrant workers... so therefore they will continuously allow them to come in... However, I dont believe the US would close it self in like that... for the simple fact that they are IMPERIALIST by nature... therefore if they closed up their borders... other countries will do the same.. and AMERICA doesnt want that....

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 10:47:03 AM

America is made up of immigrants. What makes you different from immigrants who decided to come a little later.

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 11:04:06 AM

Bush is a dangerouse person. What will happen when he invades Iraq? Well, I would stay away from well known monuments, that's for sure.

Codered The US isn't completely self sufficient. It depends on imported oil. Not to mention imported experts. After several months you'll run out of oil and national parks (those with oil underground). And meanwhile all those companies relying on export will go down, causing economic collapse. This is true for probably 99% (give or take a few %) of the countries. (the 1% are African tribes who haven't any contact with the outside world and a few other minorities)

Posted by DragonWolf [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 11:11:01 AM

US relies on alot of stuff imported. That is why other countries like them so much, high exports means more money for the other countries. Also, US is powerful because it can threaten to halt trading with other countries. China (and Japan a bit) replies on US's imports in order to survive. Europe and Aus can stand by themselves without much of a problem.

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 11:13:06 AM

Americas too big for its own boots.

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 02:45:40 PM

We could become self relient, whether we use technological developements or sacrifice luxuries to do so. We have engines that run on water (no shit, we really do, they are not yet economically feasable, but in the near future...)

Posted by RedX [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 03:12:06 PM

The tech for water powered engines in known for quite some time. But does the US have what it takes to kick the oil aristocrasy out the door and go for a hydrogen economy? So far I think not, not as long as the president himself is part of it. And Europe lacks strong politicians. I wouldn't be supprised if some African country will be the first to switch.

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 03:16:43 PM

Uh huh .. Africas heading for big corruption. /me sighs

Yes, but that quite normal. Who brought them "civilzation" (not the game)?

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at September 30, 2002, 03:29:39 PM

LOL, we should airdrop copy's of Civilization 3 onto those villages labeled "Instructions"

"America is made up of immigrants. What makes you different from immigrants who decided to come a little later."

To RDD: I do not have to go through the same struggle as they do. It's harder for most of them make it on a day to day basis... On another note.. I like how we went from PSION's statement on IP #'s to politics....
