Search engine submission??

Posted by manoj [send private reply] at August 18, 2002, 03:39:14 PM

What is the procedure for submitting a site to google? I browsed it quite thoroughly but didn't find any info on actual submission(how to add google to ur site was there). I used bravenet.com etc but they don't seem to work (I've submitted my new site countless times but I can't find it there!!)! My previous site has come up in google and yahoo all of a sudden (first position by my name - Manoj Bhatty) although I din't submit it there!! Its all mystry to me. Somebody plz tell the way a site should be submitted and is using other tools/sites ok?

Google automatically adds sites as it searches through the web by following links. The more links to the site that you have, the higher ranking that you will get.

And the TPU web site is regularly spidered, so simply include your URL in a reply in this thread, and you can consider it submitted. =)

Google bombed operation clambake? What was that about?

Posted by mop [send private reply] at August 26, 2002, 11:48:07 PM

when you spam forums posting your URL with a link saying something like 'scientology' and the link leading to xenu.net, google's bots pick up all the links and give them a higher ranking.

Xenu.net, which was made to inform people of the cultish and evility of scientology 'google bombed' itself to become result number 4 when you search for 'scientology'.

Infact, I think it has a much higher ranking now.

Posted by manoj [send private reply] at August 28, 2002, 09:18:22 AM

Does it still work?
Will something like - url for xenu.net for scientology work?

Posted by mop [send private reply] at August 28, 2002, 11:28:18 AM

if you type 'scientology' into google, its still number 4. It might even be higher now.

Xenu.net is still going

Posted by mop [send private reply] at August 28, 2002, 08:18:41 PM

Lamer _is_ good, how'd ya do that?

Posted by unknown_lamer [send private reply] at August 29, 2002, 08:46:00 AM

I don't know. My site has nothing to to at all with 'animals in danger stuff to print out' at least. I'm #1 for terms no one will ever search for! ... Except for the one time they were searched for to get in my webalizer stats :)

The ability to submit your site would go against the google algorithm.

I'm even updating it real soon now (tm) with a picture of me from June to replace my over one year old picture of me...then I have to do rename guile-web to something else because someone else has a guile-web library too...I should work a bit on my irc bot too and update the page!

Yo itinitl... on ur site... in the link section... none of the links are clickable... did you mean to make it like that?

Posted by manoj [send private reply] at September 07, 2002, 06:07:53 PM

So, I placed the link on Aug 20, but still its nowwhere. Someone plz tell me how much time does it takes for the guys at google to add sites?

A really weird thing happened althought its my stupidity but still I'd like to share it with you friends. My old site (dazzled.com/manoj) was already on google etc and I was getting cool hits daily trough yahoo/google. Then for some days it didn't opened (maybe some prob with the server etc). I mailed (fb form) the google saying that the site is not opening up and I'd shifted it to the new one so
plz remove the old and add the new one. Guess what...now the old one is gone too!!!!! (This was before I read the Cobbs & Psion's replies, otherwise I could simply add a link there)

Thanx mop! I don't have the resume written yet, so that's why it's kinda blank.
About the links, I just haven't Href'd um yet.

Do you know how I can get links like TPU has? You know how when your mouse is over them, they change colors? Or do you have to use flash texts for all of them? ThanX!

Posted by ItinitI [send private reply] at September 07, 2002, 06:16:26 PM

http://www.google.com/addurl.html there's someinfo on how Google adds sites.

Posted by manoj [send private reply] at September 07, 2002, 06:29:40 PM

I think the using the hover property in style tag is enought to change the colors when mouse hovers over links

Posted by ItinitI [send private reply] at September 07, 2002, 06:43:00 PM

Okay, I might try that, thanx!

Posted by ItinitI [send private reply] at September 07, 2002, 08:46:04 PM

I veiwed the source, and pinpointed the tag the generates the rollover effect. It was in the Meta tags, and it was an Href to a CSS.

Do a search for "Go To Hell"
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22Go+to+hell...

Posted by CodeRed [send private reply] at September 19, 2002, 10:52:32 AM

Do a search for "stop posting in this thread because it should be dead by now"

lol, is there acturally a page on the 666 website that contains the words "Go to hell", someone submit it or is someone at google just having a laugh?

Posted by regretfuldaydreamer [send private reply] at September 22, 2002, 07:40:17 AM

I checked their homepage. "Hell" is not to be found anywhere in it(I checked the source, not the view in the browser)
